Microsoft has gone a long way to updating Windows 11 with new features we’ve never seen before with older versions of the operating system. Plenty of work is going into the File Explorer lately, specifically with regards to the new tabs in the Preview mode. For all appearances, it looks like you’ll be able to reorder the tabs to your liking.

Earlier this month, we informed you that Windows 11 will soon introduce new tabs to File Explorer. From the visuals we’ve seen, we’re rather excited about this future update and how FE will finally receive a modern appearance. Microsoft had tried to do the same thing for Windows 8, but then claimed the system wasn’t ready for it as yet.

Now, it looks like Windows 11 is more than ready. Besides organizing your content in tabs, you will also be able to move them around in any order you please. It’s basically like a desktop within File Explorer. You can drag and drop as you please without the tabs flicking back into the default position.

This new function is still only available in Windows 11 Preview, so only Insiders are able to test it at the moment. There’s no news as to when it will become fully available to all users, but we’ll keep an eye out for any news. The only downside is that ads might be coming to Windows 11 File Explorer, but we guess Microsoft needs to make a return on investment somehow. If you have any thoughts on the new File Explorer, be sure to let us know.
