We are eagerly waiting to learn more about Windows 12, especially after a Windows 11 that hasn’t convinced many (even though it’s a good operating system). There has been a lot of discussion about this future OS at the Qualcomm conference these days.

We are getting closer and closer to the next generation of Windows, which we all call Windows 12, and at this week’s Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite event, we got a glimpse of some of the possible future features.

Qualcomm has unveiled a new and striking processor, the Snapdragon X Elite, and has made some bold claims. Honestly, it promises to revolutionize everything.

An ARM processor that will work seamlessly on Windows 12

It has been said that this chip will greatly boost Windows on ARM devices and will play a crucial role in the functionality of the next generation of Windows devices

“At the event, Qualcomm shared the stage with Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, to discuss the Snapdragon X Elite processor and the topic of NPUs (neural processing units) in the context of future Windows devices.

The discussion focused more on the general concepts and less on specific details, as there were no demonstrations of the new hardware or explicit mentions of ‘Windows 12.’ However, we did learn about some features that are in development, which many considered as hints of what the next version of Windows might be.”

What will AI be like in future versions of Windows?

According to Windows Central, Nadella first described his vision (and Microsoft’s) of how AI is shaping computing. Nadella believes that generative AI (gen AI, as he called it) can be as significant as smartphones and mobile computing, the advent of cloud computing, the internet, and personal computers have been in recent history.

Nadella believes that gender-based AI will influence the interaction between humans and computers, potentially making it more intuitive and friendly for us, and facilitating the change in human behavior.

According to Nadella, next-generation AI will transform operating systems (OS) as we know them, the appearance of the user interface (UI), the way we interact with applications on devices, and much more.

Changes in the user interface are signs of a more fundamental, overall change, and Nadella calls it “a major shift in the user interface.”

Next, Nadella talked about Microsoft’s new reasoning engine, a system that “reasons” and mimics our own thought process. He cited the example of Microsoft’s Github Copilot, an AI coding assistant that helps generate ideas and create code.

This is how Microsoft’s new creation, the AI assistant Windows Copilot, works. Many of the functions it performs take place in the cloud, and its functionality is a combination of on-device and cloud-based.

Microsoft is also developing a new system architecture to make all of this happen, allowing developers to create what Microsoft calls “hybrid applications.” The future lies with Windows 12.
