Yesterday we found out that Xbox has been discussing for months what their sales policy will be in the coming years. What has been decided is to become a traditional third-party publisher and maximize the profitability of their video games.

A source familiar with Microsoft’s plans stated yesterday to The Verge that Bethesda is considering bringing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to PS5… just like the recently released Starfield and the indie hit Hi-Fi Rush.

According to reports, a new cross-platform approach for certain Xbox games is emerging within Microsoft, with the company considering which titles will remain exclusive and which ones will appear on Switch or PS5 in the future. And that’s despite Bethesda laughing at the possibility a few months ago.

Indiana Jones seems to be part of this new wave of cross-platform games

Although Bethesda will release its Indiana Jones game first as an exclusive for the Xbox console, it will have a fairly short period of exclusivity according to reports. Bethesda plans to release it in December 2024 for Xbox and PC versions.

The exact release date and availability of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5 across different platforms may change, especially because Microsoft’s new multiplatform approach for Xbox games has not been finalized yet.

Microsoft has been evaluating bringing certain Xbox exclusives to PS5 and Nintendo Switch in recent months. Apparently, Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush have been considered multiplatform, and we understand that Microsoft has also explored the possibility of bringing other Xbox games to rival consoles.

What do we know about Xbox games coming to PS5 and the release dates

An announcement from Hi-Fi Rush for non-Xbox platforms is expected in the coming weeks. Earlier this week, some game data pointed to a release for PS5 and Nintendo Switch. XboxEra also reports that Microsoft plans to bring Starfield to PS5, following the release of the game’s “Shattered Space” expansion for Xbox and PC.

Last year we learned during the FTC case against Microsoft that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was originally planned for multiple consoles. Pete Hines, former global publishing head at Bethesda, testified that Disney had a contract for multiple consoles and that the agreement was modified to be exclusive to the Xbox console after Microsoft acquired Bethesda.

An Indiana Jones release on PS5 would undoubtedly be a surprise. But we are told that there is still intense internal debate at Microsoft about which Xbox games to bring to rival consoles. Now it seems that Microsoft has decided for some Xbox titles to come to PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
