Xbox is fed up with you not using your avatars and has made a drastic decision
Were you a fan of the avatars? Terrible news

In 2006, Wii entered the world of casual video games with a bang, and both Microsoft and Sony were left bewildered. And the concept was very simple: have fun at any cost. In fact, one of the great innovations that the Nintendo console introduced to the public, and which has since been copied ad nauseam, was the ability to create your own avatar by choosing everything from the eyes to the mouth, clothing, or facial expression. At the time, the Mii were an absolute hit that have been passed from Nintendo console to console… And, of course, everyone wanted to copy them.
Avatar? The one by James Cameron?
The most memorable attempt was probably by Xbox, which introduced avatars on the 360, first appearing in 2008 after a major update to the console’s operating system. And I know many of you think they were born and died there, but nothing could be further from the truth: they evolved and even in 2018 they had a reboot with a “new generation” for Xbox One.
But one thing is what they announced and another is reality: avatars have been set aside, relegated to mere cameos, and next year, they will directly disappear. Specifically, on January 9, 2025. And the reason? Logically, they are of little use, which is why the application to edit them will also disappear. The world’s smallest violin plays in their honor.
And what happens if you have purchased extras for your avatar – because yes, you could do that -? Well, if it was after November 1, 2023, Xbox will refund your money without any problem. However, they will still be alive, but in another way: those from Xbox 360, that is, the so-called “original avatars” will continue to exist and can be used in games and applications and games where they appear. For now, at least. If I were an Xbox avatar, I wouldn’t be very relaxed, to be honest.
