Every Tom, Dick, and Harry has experienced the sudden moment when a song comes to mind. They don’t remember the exact lyrics or the artist, but they do recall the rhythm. That’s why they hum it on loop for hours. Unfortunately, they can’t retrieve the song, not even with Shazam.
Well, YouTube wants to change that, as the platform is introducing a feature that will allow you to hum the melody you remember, so you can find the song that’s been incessantly bombarding your prefrontal cortex.
These new experimental features on YouTube are an excellent way to make the platform even more intuitive for everyone and more accessible.

The new “hum to search” feature coming to YouTube
It’s important to know that the feature is currently in the experimental phase, and we don’t know its success rate. But if we have to sing ourselves, it probably won’t work (you have to hear me singing in the shower).
If you use YouTube and want to give it a try, you’ll need to enable YouTube’s voice search to be able to look for the song you’re searching for. Once done, you need to hum or record the song for at least three seconds, and once the song is recognized, you’ll be directed to the relevant content on the platform.
It’s also worth noting that due to the experimental nature of this feature, it’s currently only available to a “small percentage” of YouTube users on Android.
This means you’ll have to wait some time before this feature finally reaches the masses. The experimental nature of this feature could also mean that Google might introduce some changes before its official release.
Another new feature that I think will be really useful is called the Channel Shelf. The idea behind this feature is simple. Every time a creator you’re subscribed to uploads a video, that video will automatically be added to the shelf.
This means you won’t have to go through the creator’s channel to find the video. I think it’s a fantastic feature that YouTube should roll out as soon as possible because it can make life easier for a lot of people, especially those subscribed to many creators.
