I video call a lot since it's for my work. Plus, I video call with my family that lives in Texas, too. I found LINE: Free Calls & Messages. It's a great video call app that I really recommend. It's free, which rocks, and it even has comical stickers in it to use with friends and family calls. It's easy to use, doesn't crash, and fits all my needs. Definitely check it out. More

I was really used to facebook messenger for a long time that I didn't pay attention to other venues for video calling. This app offers group chat across multiple device platforms that really got me so I would recommend this and I've been using it now. One of the best video call apps for Android. More

I think ooVoo is a video call app that misses the mark. You miss calls because it never rings on your side. It is also hard to navigate through your missed calls because you can not see who actually called just the number of calls missed. Also, I would suggest keeping kids away from this app, there are some perverse people stalking this platform. More

There's more to this than just making video calls and while this may be one of the best apps for video calling, it's other features are the ones that rally get you More

My tween daughter asked me for permission to download this, so I installed it to check it out. I can see how this would be useful since tablets do not come with data and messaging. I am not convinced though that this is something I would need on my phone. It does allow messaging and picture and video sharing. Since this app is a messaging service it may be safer than many adult apps but harder to monitor. More

by Craig Cooper
Since microsoft bought skype there has been nothing but improvement. The call quality was already excellent but to me it has gotten even more better since microsoft took over. I use this to call family abroad and it never fails me. As long as skype exists i will continue to use and support it. More

Great cross-platform video call app. I like this a lot and the quality for calls is really good too

ICQ is ancient messaging technology. It's amazing that it still exists in any form. It's fun.
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that it would cost you at least $16 for a three-minute video call back in 1964? This was the time when the Bell company premiered the Picturephone at the World's Fair in New York. This item would serve as the earliest prototypes for video-calling technology. This was a major breakthrough for communication at that time. However, this process required special wiring to work so it wasn't going to work with the existing U.S. telephone network system. Fast forward today, we have all kinds of video call apps for Android or whatever platform you are using. This time around, it is way less expensive and even free sometimes. The picture quality for these video calls is also better than ever.
The online video chat revolution chat was booming by the mid-2000s'. Credit this to the rise of free software, innovative PCs, and widespread broadband. By 2003, all the major instant messaging clients supported video calling. From then on, communicating has not been as monotonous as before. People did find satisfaction in being able to stream their calls with their loved ones using free call apps. Together with the rise of social media over the last decade, video calling had crept in under the noses of the world. The technology of video calls as it is now is already impressive and high-quality. However, it is not surprising if it gets even better in the future. All thanks to a younger generation that saw video as a new communications paradigm, one that is far from the traditional concept of the Picturephone.
