Microsoft Outlook 2010-A new twist on an old favorite

http://microsoft-outlook.en.softonic.com

Microsoft Office 2010 is out, bringing with it Microsoft Outlook, the latest version of Microsoft's veteran email client.

Email clients have suffered a steep decline in recent times, mainly thanks to the rise of safe, attractive and reliable online alternatives. Microsoft Outlook has been among the losers, but 2010's version looks to be a step in the right direction.

Visually, Microsoft Outlook is clean, crisp and clear. It's very easy to find your way around: the ribbon interface makes finding features easy, while Account Information provides a very simple interface to manage accounts, settings and more.

In addition to multi-account email support, Microsoft Outlook also features Calendar, Tasks and Contact tools, all equally easy to use. Adding to functionality is a powerful search function, while various add-ins (to be downloaded separately) give you messaging, Hotmail, and social network functionality.

For high-volume users, Microsoft Outlook also hides a number of features that make handling lots of emails much easier. From Conversation View and inbox management tools, to extra right-click functionality and Mail Box Cleanup, it should be easier than ever to keep your email under control.

For users of mail client software, Microsoft Outlook is attractive, flexible and efficient - in other words, it's a very good bet.

Download Microsoft Outlook 2010 in Softonic

Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.4 (en-US)-Excellent mail client from the makers of Firefox

http://mozilla-thunderbird.en.softonic.com

Thunderbird is a desktop email client, an alternative to Microsoft's Outlook, from the developers of Firefox.

Thunderbird is Mozilla's award winning and free solution to manage your mail more efficiently. And there are many advantages of switching to it too. Unlike Mail for example, it can handle virtual identities and create on-the-fly addresses and it's widely regarded as having one of the best spam filters out there. Most recently, it's been updated with a slick tabbed interface to make managing your e-mail easier.

The fact that like Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird can be beefed up with all manner of extensions makes it an extremely competitive mail client. It's also now much faster and more stable than before due to the Gecko 5 engine.

Getting going

Setting up Mozilla Thunderbird is painless. You can quickly import your mail and contacts from your Outlook or Mail account and set up POP3, IMAP or SMTP accounts in a flash. To stay well organized, Mozilla Thunderbird offers filters to deliver your mail into separate folders and inboxes. And of course, there's a built-in spell checker to make sure that your mails are professionally crafted.

What makes Mozilla Thunderbird slightly more unusual is the fact that it comes with an integrated RSS reader. Nowadays, this is a little outdated because many people use a separate application - or even Firefox itself - to follow RSS feeds but it may be useful if you only want to mail and follow RSS feeds at the same time when composing mails.

Searching your mail

The search tool in Thunderbird is excellent and searches happen in real time as you type. Search results are displayed in a separate tab. Tabs in general are a very big part of Thunderbird and like Firefox, you can have multiple messages open in separate tabs. This is a fantastic feature of Thunderbird although does tempt you to have too many mails open at once. Archiving is also another handy feature for those that don't want to delete messages but want to clear space in their inbox.

So what about security? You might think an open-source mail client would inherently be less secure than a paid one but Thunderbird is surprisingly secure with a fairly bulletproof spam filter. The reason being is that Thunderbird is regularly updated and crafted by volunteers who's main interest is making a better product rather than profiting from an end-product. Security updates are regular but small so as not to slow-down Thunderbird.

Exchange support

One of the biggest selling points of Mozilla Thunderbird is that it offers Microsoft Exchange support, meaning it will appeal to Office users who previously discounted it.

On the downside, the app is lacking some finesse in certain areas. Thunderbird still doesn't have conversation style email views like in Gmail (although an extension to do this can be downloaded separately) and there aren't many options for managing attachments and photos. There's also no calendar but again, this can be downloaded separately in the form of "Lightning".

Overall, Thunderbird is an excellent free alternative to Microsoft Outlook.

<<

Download Mozilla Thunderbird 17.0.4 (en-US) in Softonic

http://incredimail.en.softonic.com

IncrediMail is the perfect tool for all those who are fans of colorful backgrounds, emoticons, animation effects and other eye candy to brighten up their email messages.

This email client focuses on the appearance of emails rather than on functionality. IncrediMail provides you with all sorts of elements to make your messages really stand out: backgrounds, animations, sound effects and emoticons galore.

Besides this graphical richness, IncrediMail remains a simple email client. You can easily set it up to work with popular email services like Hotmail, AOL Mail, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, sort messages in folders and search your email with advanced filters.

Special effects in IncrediMail are not limited to email: when you start composing a new message you’ll hear the typical typewriter sound effects, and when you get new email you’ll be notified with an animated 3D character – which you can choose from a dozen of them. Another element you’ll have to put up with in IncrediMail, unfortunately, is an incredible amount of ads and banners encouraging you to upgrade to the Premium version.

IncrediMail is the perfect email client for emoticon lovers. If you prefer your email to be in plain text, you’d better stay away from this one.

Download IncrediMail 6.28.4953 build 4922 in Softonic

http://thunderbird-portable.en.softonic.com

If you're always on the move and a big Thunderbird fan, then this program should answer a lot of your prayers. Thunderbird Portable can run from a USB stick and leaves no hard disk footprint meaning you can use it with ease anytime, anywhere.

The e-mail client is one of Thunderbird Portable's most useful features - you can take your e-mail with you wherever you go although obviously, you can quickly fill up a flash drive with e-mails as you download them.
Fortunately, Thunderbird Portable itself only takes 30-40MB of space. In terms of performance, there are few noticeable differences between Thunderbird Portable and it's big brother.
It's really easy to install although we found synchronization with the mail exchange could sometimes be troublesome.
The only major worry you might have is misplacing the USB drive if it's got most of your e-mails on.
If there was some way to protect users from this kind of accident, then Thunderbird Portable would be the perfect portable app.
If you can't bear to be without your email client when on the move, Thunderbird Portable is the perfect solution, allowing you to use it on any PC you choose.

Download Thunderbird Portable 17.0.4 (en-US) in Softonic

http://inky.en.softonic.com

Inky is a simplified email client for Windows.

If you just want a simple email application to unify all of your email accounts, Inky is definitely an app you should check out. Programs like Outlook offer more powerful features but they may be overkill for many.

The beauty of Inky is its simplistic interface. Big buttons allow you to access different accounts, settings, and features. There are a ton of keyboard shortcuts for those power users as well. Once you've created an Inky account, you can log into various email services like Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook.com so you can have access to all of these accounts whenever you log into Inky.

It's very easy to get started with Inky as your emails are displayed in the traditional column and preview pane. You can reply directly from within that email or you can choose to compose a new email. Everything is laid out logically and the options aren't intimidating.

Power users who love Gmail may find Inky lacking some important features, though. There no support for Gmail's labels and Google Contacts aren't pulled into the app, which is very disappointing. Only a select few contacts showed up. Inky features its own priority inbox and sorts relevance by different shaded water droplets. The symbols are too similar and makes it very difficult to use.

Overall, Inky is a great email hub for users who want basic features but power users will want to look elsewhere.

Download Inky rc20130103 in Softonic

Mailbird 1.0.0.136 Beta-Access Gmail and online services

http://mailbird.en.softonic.com

Mailbird is a Windows desktop email client. The client currently only supports Gmail accounts for email, but also provides support to display Dropbox, Facebook, Google Drive and other services. Mailbird’s design and functionality is nearly identical to Sparrow on Mac, making it ideal for anyone looking for a Windows equivalent. This free beta version doesn’t include all of Mailbird’s features, but will give you a good taste of what it can do.

How it works

The app provides basic Gmail features such as composing emails, and sorting email into folders and labels. Mailbird does not support more advanced options such as filters, making it lackluster if you want to perform complex tasks. Another downside is that the beta only allows a single Gmail account at once.

However, you can work around this with the Identities feature. Identities allow you to forward several e-mail accounts through a single Gmail account, making it very similar to having multiple accounts. However, you have to setup e-mail forwarding within Gmail. Identities also do not save folders, labels, drafts or sent messages to the secondary accounts, only to the primary account. There are plans to add multiple account support in the final release, but for now this is not part of Mailbird's beta.

Mailbird also includes several optional apps that provide more functionality or connect to other services. Feature Apps include quick access to contacts, a detailed calendar, and the ability to search attachments. You can also use apps to connect to online services such as Dropbox, Facebook, and Asana. There are also links to popular tech blogs such as TechCrunch and Lifehacker.

Design and Interface

Nearly all of the menus, apps, and notifications are accessed from a toolbar on the left. Emails are listed in a large column that takes up only a fourth of the screen. Before a message is selected there will be a large empty space. Once an email is picked, this space will fill with the message, graphics, metadata, and menu controls. In the upper right hand corner you can quickly add labels, download attachments, or reply to an email. You can also use any Gmail keyboard shortcuts in Mailbird, making it even faster to access different features.

Composing an email will open a new compact window that has all the normal writing functionality. This includes being able to select font type, size, and color, a paragraphs alignment, and any images, lists, or links. The slight annoyance is that the app does not search for contacts; you will need to have your contacts app open or know the exact email address. The apps in generally don’t have an unique interface in Mailbird, instead they simply open the service’s webpage in the client.

Performance

Emails from major social networks such as Facebook or LinkedIn are clearly marked with icons so that you can quickly identify them. When a new email or notification arrives a bird chirp will play. If you receive too many frequent messages you can disable this chirp. Mailbird does generally have load slowly when first opened, mainly caused from populating your entire Gmail account and all folders. However, its speed is quicker when receiving a fewer messages at once. You should be able to avoid this problem by staying logged in.

Conclusion

While in beta, Mailbird is still a great Windows email client if you are content with only a single Gmail account. Its biggest advantage is apps that provide integration with services such as Facebook. Just be prepared for delays when receiving a large amount of emails. Give the beta of Mailbird a try and it might entice you to get the full version.

Download Mailbird 1.0.0.136 Beta in Softonic

http://koma-mail.en.softonic.com

Although web-based e-mail has meant that many desktop based clients are redundant, there's nothing that beats your own personal client. Koma-mail is the sort of client you can take anywhere on a USB stick which makes it ideal for those that are worried about the security of web based mail.

Best of all, it requires absolutely no installation and supports the all important SSL and APOP protocols. It also features support, as you would expect, for POP3 and IMAP plus it includes some other extra security add-ons such as ActiveX script blocking. From an aesthetic perspective, it's not the best looking e-mail client you'll ever use but it's very easy to find your way around, much simpler than something like Outlook and has everything you need. If you share the client amongst colleagues and employees, you can

Postbox 3.0.7-A promising alternative to Outlook

http://postbox.en.softonic.com

If you're tired of Microsoft Outlook, or just want something new from your desktop email client, you could give Postbox a whirl. At the moment it's in Beta, but it works well and has some interesting features.

Postbox is based on Thunderbird, and this is visually obvious the moment you run the program. Installation and setup is easy, and as you'd expect you can set up multiple email accounts. There is an excellent search engine which requires your inbox to be indexed for rapid results. If you have thousands of emails, the first indexing might take a little while, but after that it's not something you'll notice.

One unusual feature in Postbox is the tabs. There are contacts, images and attachments tags. The images tag, for example, will show you all the images from your email, and this works for contacts and attachments too. These can then easily be accessed and added when composing email, which turns your inbox into a useful active database. They are also fully search-able, so finding that picture of the cute kitten that so and so sent you becomes much easier.

Highlighting any text and right clicking gives you a range of useful tools, from Google and Amazon searches to listing on social media sites. The former is useful, but the latter feels tacked on and not fully implemented yet. You can, for example, post highlighted text to Twitter and Facebook (as a status update), if you allow Postbox to login to those services. However, these are currently very basic, and unlike some social media clients, there is no way to add your Facebook news feeds etc. You can also add RSS feeds, although as a reader Postbox is still a little basic.

While a little beta-rough around the edges, Postbox is still a very able email client with some promising new features.

Download Postbox 3.0.7 in Softonic

eMailaya 3.1.5-An alternative email application

http://emailaya.en.softonic.com

Email is an area where there have been few major innovations in standalone e-mail clients for quite some time. However, eMailaya makes a valiant attempt to do so with some interesting features and facets. The program is essentially an email previewer, client, and notifier in one. However, it's particularly good for those that want to set up multiple e-mail accounts because it allows you to set up new accounts with minimum complications or administrative headaches.

You can protect all accounts with a password and enjoy the benefits of tabbed e-mailing and switch between text and html. One bonus is that the program also allows you to convert your mailbox into a simple backup and storage utility for large files. One particularly nice feature is that eMailaya can tell you in each e-mail how long it took to be sent and be received which is useful when diagnosing delivery issues.

This is certainly one of the most innovative e-mail clients you'll find and well worth a try for those looking for something a bit different in their e-mail experience.

Download eMailaya 3.1.5 in Softonic

Spicebird Beta 0.8-E-mail, calendar and IM client in one

http://spicebird.en.softonic.com

Spicebird is an all-in-one application based on the Mozilla Gecko engine that could pose a big threat to Microsoft Outlook. Best of all, it's completely free.

Spicebird principally includes e-mail, a calendar and and an IM client. Everything is integrated with Gmail so if you're a user, all your contacts can be conveniently imported immediately. Spicebird also features a nifty RSS reader to keep you ahead of the latest news from your favourite sites. And like Outlook, it warns you when a meeting or appointment is approaching on your calendar. Spicebird is still very much a work in progress and in the future will include new languages and many more extensions to enhance it's performance. In the future, it will include new languages and extensions that enhance its operation. However, there are still basic things that still need to improve before it can seriously rival Outlook including a more advanced contacts list. In addition, like many Mozilla products, it can be rather heavy on your RAM. There are undeniable similarities between Thunderbird and Spicebird but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to integrate very well but as it's still developing, hopefully they will take this into account.

A good looking, easy to use suite which has a lot of potential although it will be a while before it can seriously rival Outlook.

Download Spicebird Beta 0.8 in Softonic
