OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, could be about to face Google on its own turf. A Reddit user has discovered the creation of an SSL certificate that authenticates the identity of a website for the domain “search.chatgpt.com”. When testing this domain name in the browser, instead of displaying a 404 error or a domain error, a “Not Found” page appears, suggesting that it could be in the validation process.
Although Google has maintained its dominance in the search market for over two decades, with approximately 90% of all global searches, its caution with generative artificial intelligence could open up an opportunity for a new competitor, who could combine its powerful AI ChatGPT with the vast amount of data available on the Internet.
Currently, very little is known about this new OpenAI search engine, apart from the fact that it would be based on question-based interaction with a natural language AI model, similar to Perplexity and Google Gemini, which provide real-time data to the AI.

An integration between search and AI models like ChatGPT could revolutionize the way people find and use information on the Internet. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, suggested in a recent interview that integrating search into ChatGPT would be the future of online search.
“Google shows you 13 ads and ten blue links, which is a way to find information, but what I find exciting is that there may be a much better way to help people find information and act accordingly,” said Altman.
One of the biggest challenges of language models is their lack of access to up-to-date information. However, integrating search into ChatGPT could solve this problem by allowing access to real-time data. This could be achieved by incorporating web crawlers that continuously track and update online information, thus providing the AI with more accurate and up-to-date data for analysis.
