Screenshot Captor 3.08.01-Simple and functional screenshot program

http://screenshot-captor.en.softonic.com

Screenshot Captor is a low-resource, highly flexible screenshot app for PC.

Screenshot Captor enables you to capture images in a variety of ways, ranging from the active window to a fixed size zone and including objects, scrolling windows (great for capturing sites from top to bottom) and even your entire working space, which means that if you have multiple monitors, Screenshot Captor will capture all of them.

But the best is yet to come: Screenshot Captor includes an excellent set of filters and special effects for your screenshots: frames, borders, shadow effects, blurring and a lot more. We tried all of them and were really happy with the results, although the program could do with more extensive undo features.

We also found some really good tools in Screenshot Captor, like the ability to automatically generate thumbnails from images or a zoom that can go up to an impressive 999%. You can actually see every single pixel in the image! The app also boasts extensive task bar options, and a really nice mini-interface after taking a screenshot, both of which make your job much easier.

Screenshot Captor may feel overwhelming, but give it a chance, it's really worth it!

Download Screenshot Captor 3.08.01 in Softonic

Snagit 11.1.0-The king of screen capture gets even better

http://snagit.en.softonic.com

Snagit is the king of screen capture software and has gotten even better with this update to version 11.

Overview

If you take a lot of screenshots for creating tutorials, Snagit 11 is better than ever. Snagit 11 still has smart window detection so you can automatically select to capture a window or part of the window so you don't have to spend time cropping the image.

New features

For a long time, Snagit was only used to capture and annotate still images but that changes with Snagit 11. The biggest feature update for this version is the ability to capture video. You can now create screencasts using Snagit and upload them directly to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, an <a href="http://en.softonic.com/windows/ftp-clients"target="_blank">FTP server, or <a href="http://screencast.com/"target="_blank">Screencast.com.

While Snagit can capture video and voice for screencasts, don't expect the full range of editing features that you find in TechSmith's dedicated screencast application, Camtasia Studio. Snagit 11 aims to make sharing short video tutorials easy. If you want more professional results for your screencasts, give Camtasia Studio a try.

Another big feature upgrade that you'll find in Snagit 11 is the ability to download more stamps and other annotation tools. If the current set of annotation tools aren't to your fancy, just hit the "get more" link inside the app to be taken to TechSmith's website. You can also download plugins for sharing on sites like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, and many more.

Snagit 11 also features improved text capture. If you take a screenshot of some text, Snagit automatically detects it and throws it into the Snagit Editor. From there, you can easily export it to whatever text editing program you'd like such as Microsoft Word, Notepad, and Evernote.

Overall, Snagit 11 is a great update for an already amazing program but those running Snagit 10 may not need the new features introduced in this version.

If you don't want or need better text capture, easy social sharing, or video capture, Snagit 10 will work just fine.

Download Snagit 11.1.0 in Softonic

YouCam, brought to you by the folks at <a href="http://www.cyberlink.com/products/youcam/overview_en_US.html?&r=1"target="_blank">CyberLink, is a photo and video application designed to mimic the functionality and ease of use of <a href="http://onsoftware.en.softonic.com/best-photo-booth-tricks-for-beginners"target="_blank">Apple's Photo booth.

YouCam and easily be the main photo and video application for your <a href="http://onsoftware.en.softonic.com/b/windows-8"target="_blank">Windows 8 tablet. It launches quickly and has a ton of effects to mess around with. You can choose frames, video effects, photo effects, and distortion filters.

You can easily switch between taking photos and videos with the slider on the top right. Taking pictures is snappy and they show up immediately in the camera roll. YouCam allows you to add effects to photos and videos after they have been taken.

Other than all the silly photo and video effects, YouCam is pretty basic. There's an eye icon on the top left that allows you to "enhance" your image or video. I found that it just boosts the exposure.

Overall, YouCam is a simple, easy to use photo and video application that you can comfortably use as your default photo and video application on Windows 8. Its not as much of a copy of Apple's Photo booth as <a href="http://photo-booth-for-windows-7.en.softonic.com/"target="_blank">Photo Booth for Windows 7 and we appreciate YouCam trying to differentiate itself.

Although its effects are a bit gimmicky, its ease of use and snappy interface makes it a recommended program.

Download YouCam for Windows 8 in Softonic

PicPick screen capture and image editor is an impressive piece of free software for covering most image management needs.

Photo editing

Massive photo editing tools like <taglink type="program" country="en" id="9533">Photoshop</taglink> are great, but some find them too heavy and complicated for everyday usage. PicPick is definitely a better choice if what you need is just a simple image editor. With PicPick you can easily perform simple photo editing tasks, including brightness, contrast and color adjustment, grayscale, blur, pixelate and other special effects.

Screen capture

But PicPick isn't just an image editor: it's also a full-featured screen capturing tool with which you can capture the image on your monitor in several ways: full screen, active window, user-defined area and more. Plus, PicPick can work with several documents simultaneously and captures can be triggered with customizable keyboard shortcuts, which makes it even handier.

Other tools

PicPick has a selection of othet tools that you're not going to need every day, but when you do find yourself with a need to, say, pick a specific color on your screen, magnify something, or use a virtual whiteboard to "draw" on your screen.
http://lightshot.en.softonic.com

Sometimes simpler is better. This is probably the motto that inspired the developers of LightShot, a really simple yet handy screen capturing tool.

LightShot replaces the standard PrtScr functionality in Windows and lets you take snapshots of your sceen, though only in two ways: full screen or user selected area. Once the screenshot is taken, LightShot displays a small bar at the bottom of the image with several options.

You can either save the image on your local drive, copy it to the clipboard or cancel the capture, plus two other interesting options: save the image online on a free file storage service – perfect for sharing with friends – or edit it in a surprisingly feature rich online image editor.

The online editor in LightShot enables you to work on the image in many ways, like cropping, transforming, adding new layers or even spicing it up with filters and special effects. When done, you can simply save the image to your hard drive in JPG, BMP or PNG.

LightShot is a nice replacement for the standard PrtScr functionality in Windows.
EasyCapture 1.2.0-Free full-featured capturing tool

http://easycapture.en.softonic.com

When it comes to grab an image on your scree all you really need is an easy, efficient capturing tool that enables you to do the job in almost no time. And if it also features some nice effects and filters, what else could you ask for?

This is what you get with EasyCapture: a handy capturing utility that includes all the tools you need to capture anything on your screen, from a tiny user-defined area to the whole desktop. You can use hotkeys for capturing and also open as many images as you want on the program's tabbed interface. Plus it includes some basic effects that you can easily apply on your photos. They may not be as powerful as Photoshop's filters, but they'll do the trick.

But what I specially like about EasyCapture is the ability to add clipart to the images. You can highlight text with a virtual marker, use rectangular shapes and arrows to draw attention to certain elements in the captured image, insert text fields and also fun text balloons to add annotations. Each one of these tools has its own settings to configure size, color and other elements.

EasyCapture has some flaws, that's true. For instance, the scrolling window capture mode didn't really work (it didn't scroll the window completely). Also, the Text tool doesn't show up changes in real time when you're editing the text, which is kind of annoying. But in general terms I found this to be an excellent capturing tool for an unbeatable price.

Capture anything on your screen and edit it with filters, effects and some fun clipart.

Download EasyCapture 1.2.0 in Softonic

Jing 2.5.47113-Capture and share images and video

http://jing.en.softonic.com

Techsmith, known for their excellent screen capture application, SnagIt and their screencast tool, Camtasia, have developed a hybrid product in Jing. This project makes capturing videos and images on your screen a simple, one click action and allows you to share them online with your friends.

The Jing interface itself, in its bubbly shape, almost feels like a web application instead of a real program. The Jing menu sits discreetly on the side of your screen and can be called up anytime. Capturing elements can be a bit confusing at first. Jing brings up a set of crosshairs that you will have to focus on the area of the screen you wish to capture. After that you can choose if you want a video or an image capture. The application features some limited editing tools like text, color or arrows, but these will often be sufficient.

The history feature in Jing is pretty cool and shows your recent captures as little thumbnails that you open up by double clicking. As to sharing captures online, you'll have to be logged in to screencast.com to make it work.

While Jing does tend to lag every now and then, it's set to be the perfect desktop companion for anyone looking to produce basic screencasts and captures.

Download Jing 2.5.47113 in Softonic

If you need to take a screenshot of your screen, you may simply use the PrtScr key on your keyboard. But if you also need to do some basic editing to the captured image, then FastStone Capture is a good option.

FastStone Capture is a minimalist application for taking screenshots that hides a plethora of tools and options under its small interface. The program includes several ways to capture images (full screen, active window, rectangular region, free –hand selected area, even scrolling window!) and works with all popular formats.

But the most powerful side of FastStone Capture shows up when you take a screenshot. The program displays the captured image and lets you work on it in several ways: add a caption, resize the image, apply a few special effects, draw free shapes on it, highlight a given area, etc.

FastStone Capture includes other interesting options like automatic saving and naming for files, support for keyboard shortcuts and the possibility to upload images directly to an FTP server.

FastStone Capture is a full featured image capturing tool that lets you not only take snapshots of your screen, but also edit them.</b

Download FastStone Capture 6.9 in Softonic

PrtScr 1.5.0-Capture images and share them in a more stylish way

http://prtscr.en.softonic.com

The PrtScr key is quite useful – it lets you capture the screen without any third-party app. But this simplicity also makes it quite limited.

If you want to get rid of those limitations, use, the PrtScr app instead. In spite of sharing the same name, this capturing tool has nothing to do with Windows standard capturing function. It offers extended functionality, such as the ability to capture user-defined areas or send the captured image by email straightaway, and also features a fairly complete settings menu where you can customize the keyboard shortcut to launch the program and the format in which to save captured images, among others.

When running, PrtScrt displays an icon in the system tray from where you can access the program's tools. I loved the way images are displayed on the desktop right after capturing them – floating in a kind of smooth 3D animation.

On the downside, it took me a while to distinguish between its three main functions - and to find the help file as well, hidden in the "About" window. I also missed some editing tools, at least the most basic ones.

PrtScr lets you capture images in a stylish way and share them by email right away, but lacks documentation and also editing tools.

Download PrtScr 1.5.0 in Softonic

MWSnap 3.00.0.74 Beta-Practical tool to take screen snapshots

http://mwsnap.en.softonic.com

Screen captures are useful for various reasons. You can use them to highlight a certain aspect of a program to friends, make presentations or explain a technical problem you’re having. At Softonic, we usually use SnagIt to take screenshots but MWSnap does the job equally as well and best of all, it’s completely free.

MWSnap is a small but powerful screen capture program capable of taking whole desktop shots, a highlighted window, an active menu or a fixed or free rectangular part of the screen. It can save images in all of the major image formats (JPG, BMP, TIFF, PNG and GIF) and also includes a zoom, a ruler and a colour picker. However, one of the most useful features specific to MWSnap is the autosave feature. This is brilliant for when you are filling in forms online and need to keep the details safe – just one click and it’s all saved automatically. MWSnap seems to be able to capture just about anything too – any size, shape or form. If something on the screen is too small you can always magnify it and capture it that way.

On the downside, the selection of hotkeys is limited. For example, you can’t just simply assign the PrtScn key to save screenshots. You have to use a combination of Shift, Ctrl, Alt and the function keys to take screenshots without the mouse. It could also do with a few more editing features such as the snazzy faded and jagged edge effects available in SnagIt. Some users also find that memory usage shoots up when taking captures which can make your system unstable although we didn’t experience this.

All in all, this an excellent free screen capture tool although if you’re looking for advanced editing features, you’d be better with SnagIt or FastStone Capture.

Download MWSnap 3.00.0.74 Beta in Softonic

ZD Soft Screen Recorder 5.2-Excellent screen recording/sharing app

http://zd-soft-screen-recorder.en.softonic.com

ZD Soft Screen Recorder is a screen recording application that will allow you to record and share your screen with ease.

This little program has been around for years, but it's done a great job of improving over time. ZD Soft Screen Recorder started out as a modest app, but it's become a great tool that both looks and acts like a much more expensive program.

Each ZD Soft Screen Recorder operation is accompanied by a Capture Wizard, which makes the process supremely simple (you don't have to use it if you're feeling independent, though!). Here you'll see the options to create a screencast, capture a video, record gameplay and even share your screen. In many cases, you would actually need separate software to carry out these processes, but not with ZD Soft Screen Recorder!

The actual recording process is very simple. ZD Soft Screen Recorder explains it each step of the way. You'll also be able to control the recording using F8, and by using the minimized controls in the taskbar. Remember that ZD Soft Screen Recorder is a pretty intuitive app, so if you're recording from <taglink type="program" country="en" id="25339">VLC</taglink>, for example, it will automatically focus on the VLC window.

ZD Soft Screen Recorder also has pretty comprehensive audio and video settings, which should keep even advanced users happy. Of course, there are slightly less technical options you can tweak too, and if you have no interest in the nitty gritty, ZD Soft Screen Recorder will make the decisions for you. In fact, the only problem with ZD Soft Screen Recorder is that the number of formats you can save video and screenshots is a little limited. Of course, with videos in both .AVI and .WMP, you have most bases covered, but if you want any other format, you'll have to use a separate converter like <taglink type="program" country="en" id="72054">Format Factory</taglink>.

ZD Soft Screen Recorder is an excellent recording program for screencasts, videos and games.

Download ZD Soft Screen Recorder 5.2 in Softonic

http://greenshot.en.softonic.com

Greenshot provides a really convenient and effective way to capture screenshots in addition to editing them. It has four main hotkey combinations for the different ways of recording the image you wish to capture. These are: "Impr" to capture and share, "Shift + Impr" to select the region, "Alt + Print" for recording the active window and "Control + Impr" to capture the full screen.

Presumably, the program is called Greenshot because the selected area turns green once selected. In addition, you hear a camera shutter noise when an image has been taken. Once you've taken a shot, you can add arrows, signs, boxes, etc. It can also be preset to automatically save captures in a certain format i.e. JPEG, BMP, GIF and PNG. In addition, you can configure the program to save directly to the clipboard or send captures to the printer.

This is a nice little capture program that does it's job well although the green effects are not really necessary.

Download Greenshot 1.1.4.2622 in Softonic

Freez Screen Video Capture 1.2-Simple screen recording

http://freez-screen-video-capture.en.softonic.com

If you've ever wanted to make a video of a computer program or task, you'll need a screen recording program to make sure you capture the process. There are lots of tools that will help you get the job done, among them Freez Screen Video Capture.

The good thing about Freez Screen Video Capture is that it records both video and audio, so you can record the video with a voiceover or the program sounds. The main interface is very simple to use - you simply have the option to Record, Pause, Stop, Options or Exit. The same window also displays the technical specifications that are currently selected.

The Freez Screen Video Capture options are quite complete, allowing you to toggle the specifications of the video, audio and region options. The program can be controlled completely by hotkeys, which makes it easy to use while recording. Unfortunately, I found a number of problems with Freez Screen Video Capture. The recording slowed my computer considerably, I had problems using the Select Fixed Region option, and the finished video wasn't of a very high quality.

Freez Screen Video Capture has some nice features, but it pulled down by a number of problems.

Download Freez Screen Video Capture 1.2 in Softonic

http://screengrab.en.softonic.com

Screengrab is an useful tool for those who need to be constantly taking screenshots, but also for those who only capture their screen from time to time and need only a simple tool to do the job as quickly as possible.

This program automates the whole process of capturing images. Simply press the user-defined keyboard shortcut and then choose what to do next with the captured image.

Needless to say, the auto-save feature is the one that allows a faster work.
You can save images in four popular formats, but unfortunately you only have two capture modes: either the whole screen or the active windows.

Download ScreenGrab 1.1 in Softonic

SnapaShot 2.2-Small and lightweight screen capture tool

http://snapashot.en.softonic.com

SnapaShot captures the entire screen or parts of it in a slightly different way. The interface provides a transparent framework that can be changed in size by stretching their edges. Simply move it across the screen and "snap" the part that you want to save. After cropping it, you can copy it to the clipboard or save it directly to a file.

What I really like about this program is that it doesn't require installation. It can be run directly from the EXE file including from a USB stick. Unfortunately, you get limited control over how you shape and add effects to the screenshots afterwards although if you upgrade to the full version, you' get a lot more.

As far as lightweight screenshot capture tools go, this is one of the quickest and smallest you'll find at just 64KB in size.

Download SnapaShot 2.2 in Softonic
