Reaching the stars has ceased to be an impossible dream and has become a ‘reality’. Thanks to technological advancements, the conquest of space is on its way to becoming a more accessible experience. At least, that’s the intention of companies like SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk.

However, SpaceX is not the only company aiming to popularize space travel. The French startup Zephalto has announced its intention to provide “culinary experiences in space.” There is just one drawback: the price. Unless you have 120,000 euros to spare, attending might be a challenge.

Zephalto’s experience includes designer French dishes along with the most exclusive beverages and wines, all within a luxurious environment. The interior cabin design is created by Joseph Dirand, an architect known for designing stores for brands like Balmain.

Currently, Zephalto plans to offer 60 flights per year, with only 6 diners on each flight. They have already started conducting initial tests to make it possible. The company aims to provide attendees with an evening overlooking Earth between 2024 and 2025.

How will the trips be carried out?

The diners will travel in the pressurized capsule called Celeste, which will also be attached to a high-altitude balloon. The company’s proposal is quite unique: they offer flights to the stratosphere, at a height of 25 kilometers. Alongside the 6 passengers, there will be two pilots who will guide the journey. The entire experience is estimated to last around 6 hours, including the hour and a half for the round trip.

But why go on a trip exactly 25 kilometers high? Vincent Farret d’Astiès, founder of Zephalto, explains that it is the moment when “you are in the darkness of space” and it allows you to “enjoy the curvature of the Earth […] you find yourself in the darkness of space but without experiencing zero gravity.” It’s the best of both worlds.
