If you’ll allow me the jest, ‘Fortnite’ is starting to resemble those Scooby-Doo movies where they always rely on crossovers to keep the audience engaged and attract fans of Batman, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Kiss, or WWE wrestlers. In fact, it’s these latter ones who now share the island with two additions for the most wrestling fans. Who needs machine guns when you can have body slams?

Fortnite Catch

If you’re of a certain age, you might remember WWE as “Pressing Catch.” And no, none of the iconic characters you know from WWE will be in ‘Fortnite’ (at least not for now). Neither Hulk Hogan, nor The Million Dollar Man, nor John Cena (he’s been there before). The two selected wrestlers are Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair, both of whom have won multiple championships in the format: nine between the two of them. And there you are on the couch thinking you’re going to the gym tomorrow for sure.

Both have arrived in ‘Fortnite’ with their playable skins, of course, and also with championship belts, respective pickaxe-hammers, and two exclusive weapons: a chair for Becky and her iconic braid for Bianca. Naturally, both will have their iconic entrance poses in the stadium, and fans can rest assured, because if it works, there’s no reason why we wouldn’t see more wrestling stars from yesterday and today joining in.

Since yesterday, you can already enjoy this new crossover, but you know it won’t be the last: in ‘Fortnite,’ it’s almost a tradition for new characters from other franchises to appear continuously. Ever since the release of ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ featuring Thanos (whose power had to be reduced, obviously), we’ve had characters ranging from Michael Jordan to Deadpool, Green Arrow, Lara Croft, and TheGrefg. In fact, just before the WWE collaboration, there were crossovers to celebrate the return of ‘Futurama,’ one with Terminator, and another with ‘Jujutsu Kaisen.’

‘Fortnite’ may not be the phenomenon it once was in its early days, but it has become the epitome of cross-marketing, a way to sell to kids without them even realizing it. Back then, Central Lechera Asturiana was featured in ‘Médico de familia,’ now WWE wrestlers are duking it out in a fictional universe. Everything goes in crossovers, marketing, and the battle for attention.
