There was a time when Netflix was the reigning platform for animation. With Bojack Horseman still airing and the addition of series like The Amazing World of Gumball, it had no competition. However, gradually, some series from its catalog started leaving the VOD service, and now they are slowly bringing them back.
After The Powerpuff Girls, Gumball, and Ben 10, Netflix has now added Adventure Time to its catalog. The iconic Cartoon Network series ran for a whopping 10 seasons and 283 episodes, making it one of the cult animated series of recent years. But why is it worth rediscovering? Whether you’ve seen it before or not, there are undoubtedly many reasons why it’s worth taking a look at the great adventures of Jake the dog and Finn the human.

A story that is never what it seems
First and foremost, the series boasts a unique tone that seamlessly integrates adventure, comedy (mostly), and surprising drama. While the initial premise might seem simple, following two friends on their quest for exciting adventures in the post-apocalyptic world of Ooo, the narrative evolves throughout the seasons, delving into profound themes such as friendship, identity, loneliness, and growth. What appears to be a children’s show takes a surprising turn.
The emotional depth and character development are remarkable, making Adventure Time a series that can be enjoyed by both children and adults. But what stands out the most is the creativity and originality, the two defining traits of the show. The world of Ooo is populated by quirky characters, from unicorn princesses to jailbreaking vampires and witches, all with unique personalities and unexpected quirks. The series cleverly plays with logic, adding to its ingenious charm.
Furthermore, the series’ soundtrack, composed by Jeremy Zuckerman and Timothy Kiefer, adds another layer of magic to the experience. The songs and background music are memorable and emotionally evocative, enhancing the unique atmosphere of Adventure Time. Ultimately, it’s a show that proves no matter how crazy the world we live in, friendship and love are what truly matter.
