The Lexus RZ electric crossover is set to make waves in the European market with significant updates to its performance and technology, as announced by Toyota during a product showcase in Brussels.
This revamped model includes enhanced range, increased power, and the introduction of a steer-by-wire system, marking a significant evolution since the vehicle’s debut in 2022.
Equipped with a new 77 kWh battery, the updated RZ boosts efficiency and allows for a towing capacity of up to 3,300 lbs, showcasing its practicality.
Improvements in battery technology and motor systems can lead to an increase of up to 60 miles
Lexus claims that improvements in battery technology and motor systems can lead to an increase of up to 60 miles in range over previous models, enhancing the appeal for long-distance EV users. The lineup also introduces the RZ 550e F Sport, featuring dual-motor all-wheel drive that generates an impressive 402 horsepower, further underscoring Lexus’s commitment to performance in the luxury EV segment.
One of the standout features is the steer-by-wire system that improves communication between the steering wheel and the wheels, offering quicker responses and significantly reduced vibrations compared to traditional systems.
The F Sport variant even includes an “Interactive Manual Drive”, which simulates gear changes for a more engaging driving experience. With enhanced acoustic insulation and structural rigidity, the overall driving experience is designed to be quieter and more refined.
To expedite charging, every RZ model will come with a new onboard charger capable of 22 kW, significantly improving charging speed. In addition to these developments, Toyota has set ambitious goals for environmental responsibility, planning to launch three additional electric vehicles in Europe by 2026, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2035. This aligns seamlessly with its strategy to establish a formidable presence in the competitive EV market.
As the updated Lexus RZ prepares for its European launch this fall, the anticipation builds for a North American rollout, with details on the inclusion of features like steer-by-wire still to be determined.
