With the release of iOS 18.2, Apple has introduced one of the most fun and original features we’ve seen in recent times: Genmoji. These emojis, generated from our simple descriptions, take personalization to another level, and the company has wanted to highlight their potential with a new ad titled “Imagine it. Genmoji it.”

Genmoji are, for those who are not yet familiar with them, personalized emojis that we can generate directly from the system’s emoji selector. All we need to do is write a brief description of what we want—“a dog with a cowboy hat” or “an astronaut cat,” for example—and the system will offer us several options from which we can choose the one we like the most.
Our creations will be available directly in Messages, but we can also use them in other compatible apps. And if we want to send a Genmoji to someone who doesn’t have iOS 18.2, they are sent as images, ensuring that no one misses out on the experience.
In the announcement, Apple showcases Genmojis created from the most original and curious ideas imaginable. From robots with sunglasses to unicorns on skateboards, the variety can inspire us. All of this is accompanied by a clear message: Genmojis are a tool for us to unleash our creativity. “Now you can create unique Genmojis, directly in Messages,” says the description of the announcement—and that is exactly what makes this feature stand out so much.
The technology behind Genmoji is none other than Apple Intelligence, which means that the entire process occurs locally on our devices. This not only ensures quick creation but also guarantees that our data is always secure.
With Genmoji, just like with Image Playground, Apple invites us to explore new forms of communication. It is yet another example of how the arrival of Apple Intelligence transforms everyday tools into something more. Now, with just a description, we can bring to life emojis that reflect exactly what we want to convey.
