In 2024, according to information revealed by Mark Gurman in his newsletter Power On, Apple is ready to surprise us all with a series of very significant updates in the Apple Watch line, particularly in the model that will celebrate the tenth anniversary of this iconic device.

The tenth anniversary version of the Apple Watch

The Apple Watch, which made its debut in September 2014 and was released in April 2015, is preparing to receive what could be its most important update to date. Although the 2023 version already brought several internal improvements, Apple seems to be reserving its biggest innovations for 2024, when we expect it to be called Apple Watch Series 10.

Gurman points out that at least one of the Apple Watch models in 2024 will feature an updated design. Although he does not specify which one, rumors suggest that it could be the standard Apple Watch that receives this aesthetic renovation and not the recently launched Ultra variant. In fact, the change makes sense, especially considering that the Apple Watch Ultra, first introduced in 2022, may not be ready to adopt a microLED display until 2025 or 2026.

Among the most notable updates, Gurman mentions that the new model could be thinner and incorporate a new magnetic mechanism to connect the straps. However, what should really catch the attention of many of us are the health-related features. Ones that, as far as we know, could also come to the Ultra variant.

Apparently, Apple is ready to incorporate a sensor capable of monitoring blood pressure. A feature that would allow us to detect trends in our blood pressure, although in this first version it would not provide specific measurements of systolic and diastolic pressure. This type of monitoring, directly on the wrist, represents a very remarkable achievement in engineering and design and should provide key information for many people who need to keep track of these metrics.

Another important health feature is the detection of sleep apnea, which would be done through various measurements and metrics during sleep hours and breathing patterns. With this diagnostic capability at home, it could provide key data to many people without the need for a formal diagnosis, which usually requires a sleep study at a specialized center. Additionally, it could help identify mild cases of sleep apnea that often go unnoticed.

Apple renews the Apple Watch lineup annually, so we expect this new Apple Watch Series 10 in September 2024, along with the iPhone 16 lineup. An update, but one that will go far beyond the usual annual changes. With several significant changes in both design and health capabilities, it is clear that this will be the Apple Watch for the tenth anniversary.
