Argylle is Matthew Vaughn’s latest big bet in cinemas, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated directors who has directed acclaimed films such as Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kick-Ass. With Henry Cavill as the protagonist and such a spectacular cast including figures like Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Dua Lipa, and Bryan Cranston, the film was meant to be the first big blockbuster of 2024. However, things have not turned out as expected.

Argylle has turned out to be a box office failure. Despite costing 200 million by Apple TV+ and 80 million in marketing —handled by Universal—, the film has barely grossed 35 million dollars in its first weekend worldwide. The release, in short, has been very poor compared to the costs, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to improve.

Has Matthew Vaughn lost his magic?

Argylle tells the story of a super spy (Henry Cavill) who is dragged into a treasure hunt that takes him all over the world. However, the secret agent’s turbulent past could jeopardize the mission. Released on February 2nd, it is expected to have exponential box office growth, but for now it is a complete failure in theaters.
