The wait is over. Yesterday were announced through social networks the posters of Barbie along with a new trailer. Both have confirmed what we all already knew: Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will not be the only dolls in the movie. Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa and Scott Evans will play variations of Ken, while Dua Lipa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Kate McKinnon and Hari Nef will play Barbie, among others.
The most interesting thing about all this is that each actress will play a unique version of Barbie with different professions. However, the Ken’s will not be as versatile: they will simply remain Ken.
One of the announcements that has attracted the most attention has been Dua Lipa, who will play a mermaid Barbie. This will be the first film that will bring the singer to the cinema, along with her work in Argylle, a thriller destined for Apple TV+.
As if this cast of celebrities were not enough, Helen Mirren has also been confirmed as the film’s narrator. On the other hand, Will Ferrell would be a CEO of Mattel and Michael Cera would give life to Allan. Here below we also leave you the trailer, which is certainly not to be missed.
Since its announcement, the Barbie movie has unleashed an infinite number of memes and so far, it doesn’t seem to stop. Those first images of Robbie and Gosling on the beach in Venice were the beginning of the “Barbie obsession”. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, both actors declared to be mortified by the attention they had received in networks. Awkwardness aside, for the moment it looks like Barbie is destined to be a box office hit.
Directed by Greta Gerwig, the Barbie movie will be released in theaters on July 21 of this year, so we hope to see you there.
