Netflix is the largest streaming platform in the world, and although Amazon Prime Video has surpassed it in number of users in some countries like Spain, it remains the benchmark in all aspects. However, this does not necessarily mean that it is the one that spends the most, which has been proven, and a lot, in its 2023 budget.

According to the portal Bloomberg, Netflix has released a whopping 130 fewer contents than in 2022. This means that the platform has released less content than ever since 2021, with a significant drop of 16% compared to the previous year. But what is the reason for this decline?

Less series than ever on the platform, but for how long?

Everything seems to indicate that the numerous cancellations of 2022 have caused this situation. But this cut has very clear reasons: the main ones are the increase in streaming costs, which has affected all platforms, and the strike of writers and actors that has paralyzed the entire industry during 2023.

Although their numbers are slightly better than those of 2021, the boost they had in 2022 decreased significantly this year, and it is most likely that Netflix has found stability in their numbers lately. However, the situation may improve in 2024, and the percentages may rise again compared to this year.

The most significant drop has been during the second semester of 2023, when Netflix has released 60 fewer series, 25% of the total. This number may seem concerning, but it is due to the reasons mentioned above, and the balance may be restored during this year.
