Ok, One Piece has already been renewed for a second season. Perfect, it’s something that fans of the series wanted and certainly something that Tomorrow Studios has earned with this adaptation so rounded that they have made in Netflix. But… what now? Undoubtedly, now come the biggest challenges that the series will face, so you have to see very well how to do to overcome them.

Below we leave you with some of the challenges that the production of the second season will face. We have made our guesses and it would be normal to adapt from the arrival at the Grand Line to Arabasta, so the challenges cover this stretch.

1. The condensation of episodes

The main danger that the second season of One Piece has is something that already happened with the first one: how can they condense so many episodes in a single season of 8 (or few more) chapters? In East Blue they managed to do it by skipping many details and with new narratives, but now they will have it much more difficult, since from the arrival of the Grand Line, the arcs are longer and more complex.

2. Smoker’s smoke (and Logia fruits)

Smoker has already been introduced in the post-credits scene of the first season of One Piece, so it’s clear who the first enemy will be. But his appearance causes a new type of power to emerge: Logia fruits. This type of power turns the person who has it into a material; for example, another character we’re sure to see, Crocodile, is made of sand. This will be a big challenge at the special effects level, and as it is something that will be repeated throughout the series, they will have to do it very well.

3. The appearance of Chopper (and Zoan fruits).

The biggest challenge, or at least as all fans see it, is Chopper’s appearance. The human-human hybrid reindeer is already challenging in its classic look, which many believe should be made of CGI just like the pokémon in Detective Pikachu. But then there are his hybrid forms, which range from a classic reindeer to a giant… no doubt, they will have to optimize that aspect a lot.

4. Robin’s casting… and Crocodile’s appearance?

Finally, and although there are many other aspects to take into account in terms of challenges, Tomorrow Studios will have a very difficult time with two key characters: Robin and Crocodile. The first one is an ally of the villain until she becomes one more of the Straw Hats, and her story is so impactful that she must be up to the task with a great cast. And the second is one of the most iconic villains in all of One Piece, so they should nail it… although there are rumors that they might change her gender and be a woman. If so, it would be very surprising but it could be effective.
