ChargePoint Unveils Revolutionary New Charger With V2X Capabilities

ChargePoint, a leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, has unveiled an innovative new charger architecture touted as a “generational leap in AC Level 2 charging”.

Designed for consumers in North America and Europe, this next-generation technology will feature vehicle-to-everything (V2X) capabilities and promises to charge EVs in as little as four hours, offering a significant upgrade in efficiency compared to current market standards.

As ChargePoint enters 2024 with the goal of reaching one million global charging ports, it continues to introduce groundbreaking technologies aimed at enhancing user experience.

Innovative EV Chargers Set To Debut In Europe Before North America By 2025

The new architecture will serve residential, commercial, and fleet customers alike, fundamentally changing the landscape of EV charging. Hossein Kazemi, ChargePoint’s chief technical officer of hardware, emphasized that the new chargers will be “revolutionary, not evolutionary,” paving the way for advanced capabilities that will significantly improve charging experiences for both station owners and drivers.

The enhanced charger architecture supports smart home integration, allowing residential and commercial users to incorporate EVs into broader energy systems alongside solar panels and energy management tools.

Additionally, dynamic load balancing technology will improve charging speeds by optimizing energy use in connected buildings. This means that owners of multi-unit dwellings or fleet depots can achieve maximum efficiency without the need for extensive upgrades to wiring or energy services.

Furthermore, the new chargers will include ChargePoint’s Omni Port technology, ensuring compatibility across a wide range of EV makes and models. This architecture also complies with regulatory standards in Europe and the ENERGY STAR certification in the United States.

According to ChargePoint, the first models of this new charger range are expected to debut in Europe this summer, with North America following by the end of 2025.
