Among all the virtues of ChatGPT, the OpenAI chatbot, one of its main limitations is that the artificial intelligence is not connected to the Internet. Yes, you might be thinking, “But wait, it’s literally a web app.” Well, it turns out that this popular AI, despite providing information on a multitude of topics, is unable to use the Internet for its queries. Whenever you ask about something current, it informs you that its database only goes up until 2021.
But that’s now history, and ChatGPT can finally connect to the Internet to address your inquiries about current topics. However, there’s a small catch: it comes at a cost. This week, OpenAI has announced “Browsing,” a feature exclusive to ChatGPT Plus, the company’s premium service, which will utilize Bing to search for information on the Internet.

The collaboration with Bing shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone by now, as Microsoft invested billions of dollars in OpenAI (quite a sum), resulting in the creation of various AI tools, including their new Bing search engine, which is also integrated into Microsoft Edge, and Copilot, an AI that the company has integrated into many of its products.
According to OpenAI, Browsing is highly useful for queries related to current events and any information that “goes beyond the original training data of ChatGPT” (which ends in 2021). To access this new feature, ChatGPT Plus subscribers need to go to the “New Features” section of the app, select the GPT-4 model, and choose “Browse with Bing” from the displayed list. Browsing is available for the ChatGPT apps on iOS and Android.
