We all know that the arrival of Lilith has been the best thing that could happen to Sanctuary. Well, maybe we’ve gone a bit too far, considering it’s filled with corpses and demons, but it’s all for a good cause: creating an amazing game like Diablo IV.

According to Blizzard themselves, the latest installment in the Diablo franchise has experienced strong initial demand and a smooth launch, something that doesn’t always happen with the company’s titles.

Diablo IV, the latest entry in a series that is already 25 years old, has set internal records for veteran publisher Blizzard by surpassing $666 million in sales since its release on June 6th. This number is not coincidental; it’s demonic.

The game combines classic elements of the franchise, from the dark and gothic atmosphere of demon slaying to a persistent online focus where players can connect with friends to vanquish monsters.

The figure of $666 million is no coincidence

The number of the beast, the number of the devil. In this case, the over 666 million dollars is not a coincidence but a nod to the demonic franchise.

Rod Fergusson, the general manager of Diablo and senior vice president of Blizzard Entertainment, attributed the initial success to the company’s willingness to work across all platforms while listening to their audience, who were very displeased with the company’s recent decisions (such as Diablo Immortal).

Users have played over 276 million hours since its release. During the game’s early access period, it topped the charts on Twitch and YouTube for the first nine days of June.

A piece of news that is pure air for Blizzard

Activision Blizzard – formed in 2008 through the merger of Activision and Blizzard – has gone through some difficult years. The Federal Trade Commission has taken measures to halt Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of the company.

The deal has also been challenged in other countries, with regulators arguing that the potentially anticompetitive consolidation could harm the future of the gaming industry.

Activision Blizzard has also faced employee discontent and a lawsuit over a culture of “harassment and discrimination” that resulted in the mistreatment of women within the company. That’s when the company was on the brink of collapse.

However, creating a good game does not erase the tarnished image of recent years or excuse the toxic work culture they have practiced until now. Blizzard still has a long way to go in terms of making amends.
