This weekend is taking place the second open beta of Diablo IV. The first of them was last week and was open to those players who had reserved the game; on the other hand, this second one is for everyone, regardless of whether or not you are going to buy the game.

At Softonic we are giving it a hard time after these two beta phases, so here are some first impressions fighting the darkness.

A known formula

As soon as you come from previous Diablo video games, everything you see in Diablo IV will be familiar to you. This is not said as a bad thing, it is precisely commented as a positive fact: the Blizzard title knows where to drink from, where to take its inspiration. In this particular case, it takes Diablo III, a video game that was a huge success, and evolves it by taking the best from other titles.

In fact, this is arguably the really important aspect of Diablo IV. The developers have been fully aware of where Diablo III could be improved, as well as the games from which some concepts could be taken. From here, everything appears in the beta so that the new features introduced are recorded.

To begin with, the control of Diablo IV is fantastic. Good control in this type of game is everything, especially if we take into account that dungeons are the predominant note. Taking into account this detail -that of control-, we have chosen to test the rogue, the class that precisely has greater mobility of the five existing ones. It is not by chance that we have selected this one, since we wanted to test how the game moves with the most agile of all and in closed environments, and the sensations are so positive that we must applaud the Blizzard team.

In this sense, the actions to be performed fit perfectly with what is shown on the screen. The whole world of Diablo IV has a really good level design, it does not give that aspect that there are points left to free will or without taking into consideration, but everything responds to a reason. The dungeons do not seem generic and fulfill their purpose: that of being a claustrophobic place full of enemies.

In this sense, Diablo IV enhances and explores what was seen in Diablo III. You can do more things with the same elements. For example, when it comes to skills, now they have a greater variety when it comes to being performed. They are not small modifications that do not have a big impact on the gameplay, but each of them has its own particularities. My rogue’s way of playing will surely be totally different from yours, not only because of the skills, but also because of the equipment subset.

This variety of options, added to the enhanced crafting elements compared to previous installments, turn Diablo IV into an endless well of hours. Beyond the main story, the feeling is that much more can be done not only in the scenario, but also with our character.

As we spend more hours during this open beta weekend we will write down all the details. This text is nothing more than a first impressions after taking the glove to the first hours of gameplay. Diablo IV looks very good.
