Disney’s New Adventure Comes to You: Illusion Island Announces Release Date

February 8 was a day that many gamers will remember. At the Nintendo Direct, a long-awaited event organized by Nintendo to talk about upcoming releases, the Japanese company announced a series of video games that dazzled the audience. While nothing was known about some of them, such as Metroid Prime Remastered, we had already seen some details about others.

This is precisely the case of Disney Illusion Island, an exclusive video game for Nintendo Switch about which much more was revealed in Nintendo’s 40-minute presentation, including its release date.

First presented in 2022, Disney Illusion Island takes us to the mysterious island of Monoth, where Mickey Mouse and his friends have landed. This peculiar group must find three magic books in order to save the island and protect its inhabitants, the Hokuns.

Disney Illusion Island is very reminiscent of Rayman Legends, a successful Ubisoft game, as well as another video game that, ironically, was based on classic Disney characters: Cuphead. The aesthetics, art design and gameplay mechanics seem to be inspired by these titles, albeit with the addition of the endearing Disney characters.

As a highlight, Disney Illusion Island can be played in cooperative multiplayer (something that is in line with the interests of Nintendo and its drive to monetize online), and we will have the option to play with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. Characters that, moving away from the current style in the animated series and movies where they appear, have in this game a striking design reminiscent of the look of old cartoons.

With a combination of a masterful soundtrack, lovingly crafted art design and deceptively fun gameplay, Disney Illusion Island promises to be a Nintendo Switch smash hit. The game will be released on July 28, and can be pre-ordered now.
