Have you ever wanted to create an Instagram Story for a friend? Yes, you’re probably thinking about that time when, after a night out, you took your friend’s phone and uploaded a photo of both of you from their account, but wouldn’t it be easier if you could do it from your own account? Well, Instagram is currently testing that feature.

The new option to share a Story, which has been highlighted by content creator Jonah Manzano, is appearing on the accounts of various users. If your account has the feature enabled, it will appear in the story sharing menu as “Friend’s Story“, along with the classic options of “Your Story”, “Close Friends”, and “Message”.

After selecting this option and clicking on “Share”, the selected contact will be able to review the Story you have created for them and, if approved, it will be added to their Story. This Story will be shared with your contact as a message, so it will be 100% private until the contact decides to publish it.

According to Instagram, as confirmed to Social Media Today, the option is being tested with selected users, without a specific date for its full release yet: “We are always working on new ways for people to share and connect on Instagram, and now we are testing a way to request to share a friend’s story with a small group of people to start.”

In addition to being a very useful feature for testing with your friends, it can also be of great interest to brands and content creators on Instagram who want to generate more engagement. They will be able to run campaigns in which they would have the option to request content from their followers, with the opportunity to appear on the profile of the brands or creators in question.
