Netflix has had a rather inconsistent year, but when it comes to horror, it has become one of the go-to platforms worldwide. From series like Stranger Things or Hill House to films like A Quiet Place or the recent Bird Box Barcelona, it has consistently released terrifying titles for all kinds of audiences. And now, it has just added a new one to its catalog.
Netflix has just added Don’t Breathe 2 to its platform, a 2021 film that serves as a sequel to one of the best horror movies in recent years. It was highly praised by both critics and audiences upon its initial release and now hopes to find an even larger audience with its availability on Netflix.
Stephen Lang in a state of grace
The first Don’t Breathe movie follows a group of three thieves who break into a house in Detroit to rob its contents in an attempt to escape their bleak lives in the city. However, what initially seems like an easy heist, as the homeowner is blind and seemingly defenseless, turns into a nightmare when they realize he is a formidable and ruthless man (played by Stephen Lang).
Lang delivers a sublime performance as the antagonist in the first film, becoming a unique villain/antihero who instills terror with just a gaze into the camera. So, it only makes sense that he would be the central figure in the sequel. But what exactly is Don’t Breathe 2 about?
The sequel takes place eight years later, where we see Norman Nordstrom (now known by his name) living with an 11-year-old girl named Phoenix. Norman has recreated the family that was once taken from him by a drunk driver, and he has finally found the justice he deserved. However, intruders break into his house once again, and Norman must unleash his thirst for blood once more.
While Don’t Breathe 2 may not have received as positive reviews as the original film, it still managed to become a modest box office success and is now seeking a new audience on Netflix. Undoubtedly, just for the opportunity to see Stephen Lang in action, it is worth giving it a look.
