You will now be able to transfer your Netflix profile to an existing account, without creating a new one.

In early 2023, Spain unintentionally became one of the first countries to test the new measures for limiting shared accounts on Netflix. In a move clearly aimed at maximizing profits at all costs, even going against public opinion and the philosophy of account sharing that the company once advocated for, Netflix began gradually restricting the ability to share an account with others.
Specifically, the measure limited the possibility of sharing an account with someone who did not reside at the location of the main device, which determines the account’s location. Along with this new measure, Netflix also introduced two new features: the first allowed users to pay 8 euros for a monthly expiration key that grants access to the account on another device, even if it’s in a different location. The second feature enabled profile transfer to a new Netflix account.
Despite the measure being highly unpopular, it was eventually rolled out in more markets, including the United States, where it has proven to be quite successful (much to the dismay of users). Now, following the trend of these changes, Netflix has released an update to its profile transfer tool that could be well-received by the platform’s users.

The new update allows users to transfer a Netflix profile from one existing account to another, effectively exporting the watchlist, viewing history, and even Netflix recommendations to a previously established account. This eliminates the need to create a new account, as was previously required, and enables a seamless transfer of all profile data.
This update can be particularly useful for users who decide to become independent, allowing them to export their profiles from the Netflix account used in their parents’ house and import them into their own pre-existing accounts. Furthermore, it can also solve the common issue of ceasing to share a Netflix account with an ex-partner, as they can revert back to using a previous account by importing the shared account’s profile.
