Denis Villeneuve, director of Blade Runner 2049 and the impressive Arrival, finally established himself as one of the icons of 21st century science fiction with Dune. Released in 2021, the film adapting Frank Herbert’s novel turned out to be a huge success despite suffering the aftermath of the pandemic. But at the end of the film we came face to face with reality: it was the first part of two films.
This year Dune will return with its second part, which will finish telling the story of Paul Atreides and will prove that a good movie can be made about Herbert’s books, no matter how much David Lynch took that idea out of our heads in 1984. Undoubtedly, it has everything to become one of the gems of the year.
Synopsis of Dune: Part 2
Dune: Part 1 gave us a perfect understanding of the world in which the story is set as well as the importance of the Melange, the material of the planet that everyone wants and fights for. It also served us to see the arrival of the Atreides to the planet Arrakis and, finally, to see the rebellion that ended with the murder of the protagonist’s family and the rise of Baron Harkonnen.
After this great blow, Paul managed to barely survive and ended up with Chani, the character played by Zendaya, joining the Fremen tribe led by Stilgar (Javier Bardem). Together with the Fremen, Paul Atreides begins to train and understand Arrakis better, but he is still far from getting the revenge he deserves.
Therefore, in the second film we will see how Paul Atreides trains with the Fremen and finally advances towards the capital of Arrakis to confront House Harkonnen. In addition, everything seems to indicate that in this sequel we will be able to better see all the mysticism surrounding the character and, of course, more sandworms.
The official synopsis of the second part is as follows: “Duke Paul Atreides joins the Fremen and begins a spiritual and martial journey to become Muad’dib, while trying to avoid the horrible but inevitable future he has witnessed: a Holy War in his name, which spreads throughout the known universe. The first Dune already had a spectacular cast, with actors like Jason Momoa and Oscar Isaac who, for obvious reasons, will not return for the sequel. Dune Poster: Part 2
Warner Bros. Pictures has already released the first official poster for Dune: Part 2. Instead of being the terrible collage we had in the first installment, this time they have decided for a much more attractive poster. In it, we see both Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides) and Zendaya (Chani) in front of the big sphere of the planet.
If this poster gives us any clue, it is that we will once again have the wonderful cinematography of Greig Fraser, who is also the wizard behind The Batman, Rogue One and Lion. He is certainly the best in his field today.
