Look, EA, let’s be clear. No matter how much you insist on calling your franchise ‘EA Sports FC’, it will always be ‘FIFA’. It’s only been two years since the franchise changed its name, and no one in this world calls it what you want it to be called. We have to accept it with sportsmanship; it’s no big deal. Especially when the game continues to be in the spotlight with such powerful announcements as the ones they’ve made now.

On Sundays you abandon me for soccer

And it was about time, after 30 years of saga in which not a single installment has been missed, to make room for women’s soccer, which is increasingly in vogue. Instead of making a separate game for them or a DLC, EA has included it in the new title, which will be released on September 27th. In fact, you’ll have five leagues available: United Kingdom, United States, France, Germany, and Spain. Not bad for a start.

In addition, it should be noted that all of them will converge in the Women’s Champions League, and they’ve made sure to make it as realistic as possible. And that includes, of course, a much lower budget than its male counterpart, with shorter contracts and a smaller window for signings. Soccer is like that.

It’s the most interesting novelty of a saga that sometimes seems like it can’t give any more. But there’s more. Now we can play with sports stars who retired long ago, such as Kelly Smith, Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Andrea Pirlo, or, if you pre-order the game, David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, and Ronaldo. No, not Cristiano Ronaldo. The other one.

There’s more news, of course, including five-on-five matches played at full speed, the possibility for coaches to switch between male and female teams, and other tweaks. So, those who have the 2024 game have no excuse not to update. After all, it’s been like this since 1993, and it doesn’t look like the saga will ever end. As for ‘eFootball’ (the new version of ‘Pro Evolution Soccer’)… Well, let’s just say they haven’t scored a goal properly in a long time.
