In recent years, the video game industry has seen a surge in the release of remakes and remasters, a trend that responds to the increasing costs of developing new games. This approach not only allows developers to secure additional funds but also generates renewed interest in classic titles. Among these games, one that has captured the attention of many is Sleeping Dogs, a 2012 title that follows the life of undercover police officer Wei Shen in Hong Kong.
A Sleeping Dogs Remake? More Likely Than You Think
Despite receiving a positive score of 80 on Metacritic, Sleeping Dogs never got a sequel, leaving fans of the franchise wanting more. The community has expressed significant interest in seeing a graphical improvement of this game, particularly through a possible remake or remaster. In response to this desire, 3D artist Pasquale Scionti has created an impressive project in Unreal Engine 5 that demonstrates how the title could look if modernized, using advanced lighting techniques and high-resolution textures.
Scionti’s project includes images and video clips that highlight the visual potential of Sleeping Dogs. According to reports, he used Lumen HDE Lighting and Quixel Megascans to bring the Hong Kong environment to life in a striking way. The graphic quality achieved in this project has led several fans to comment on their desire for a sequel that maintains that level of production, with comments like “We need Sleeping Dogs 2 with these graphics.”
However, despite the growing demand, the likelihood that Square Enix, the original publisher of the game, will meet this request seems low. Fans of the title continue to hope that their call will be heard, although in the current environment there are more questions than answers about its future.
