John Wick has become one of the most popular action sagas of the 21st century. Starring Keanu Reeves, it recounts the exploits of a hired killer in search of revenge and, later, redemption. Undoubtedly, the legion of fans it has generated is justified thanks to the good work of its director Chad Stahelski. But what about the fourth installment?

John Wick: Chapter 4 will be released on March 24, and the first reviews have already arrived. All of them agree that it is a fantastic release, and has reached 91% acceptance on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it has a handicap that haunts both this film and many others today.

John Wick 4 is too long

Most reviews of John Wick 4 are very positive. Some of them highlight the saga’s mythology through the folklore of Baba Yaga. Others focus on the impressive action scenes starring Reeves. And some highlight its mix of action and comedy.

However, almost all reviews also highlight the biggest weakness of this movie and one that may cause audience rejection: it lasts too long. John Wick: Chapter 4 lasts a whopping 2 hours and 49 minutes, a far cry from the hour and 36 minutes of the first one.

In each film of the saga they have been increasing the time; the second one lasted just over two hours and the third one 2:23 minutes. But, apparently, in this one the director has gone too far. At least that’s what most critics have pointed out. To paraphrase The Wrap, “169 minutes is a long time to fill, even for this masterful team”.

Be that as it may, most analysts believe that this is a faithful installment of the franchise and believe that it is in better health than ever. In addition, even if it lasts too long, they argue that the pace remains up and that it does not slow down at any time. Thus, despite its length, it may well find favor with Reeves’ fans.
