Greenlane Opens Flagship Electric Charging Truck Stop in Colton Next Month

Greenlane is set to open its flagship electric charging truck stop in Colton, California, next month, marking a significant milestone in the development of nationwide EV charging infrastructure for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

This ambitious project, constructed by Mortenson, broke ground in September and will feature more than 40 chargers designed to accommodate a range of electric vehicles, including heavy, medium, and light-duty models.

The initial rollout includes advanced Alpitronic CCS 400 kW dual-port chargers, equipped with lightweight, oil-cooled cables that enhance charging speed without adding bulk.

For smaller vehicles, eFill CCS 180 kW chargers will be available, focusing on smart energy management to ensure seamless fleet operations. As part of future expansion plans, Greenlane aims to integrate solar panels and battery storage systems to bolster grid stability and improve energy efficiency, highlighting a commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

To ensure superior performance, ABB’s SCADA system will facilitate remote monitoring and breaker management, enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the service.

The infrastructure will also make use of Trenwa precast cable trenches, simplifying future upgrades and expansions in response to increasing demand for megawatt charging solutions.

Greenlane, a joint venture among Daimler Truck North America, NextEra Energy, and BlackRock, is actively developing the I-15 Commercial EV Charging Corridor. To support fleet operators, the company will launch a digital suite that includes an app for checking charger availability and making reservations, as well as a fleet portal that aids in route planning and management.

Additionally, integrations through OnRamp Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) will provide crucial data for optimizing charging schedules and enhancing operational efficiency, as noted by Greenlane’s Chief Technology Officer, Raj Jhaveri.
