HBO Max will soon change its name to Max, a decision that has already been implemented in the United States. This rebranding comes along with dozens of new offerings, including the Harry Potter remake series, the new Game of Thrones prequel, the Penguin series based on Batman, and the new TV adaptation of The Conjuring franchise.

However, this change is coming along with several others for the platform. And, unfortunately for subscribers, it brings some bad news: HBO Max prices are increasing. This is the case in many countries, including Spain, as a way to pave the way for the upcoming Max rebranding. But how much will you be paying for HBO Max from now on?

The HBO Max price increase is not very significant

Far from being a significant increase, the HBO Max price hike is almost symbolic, although it may have a long-term impact on subscribers’ wallets. Specifically, the price increase in Spain and Nordic European countries will be 1 euro, while in Bulgaria and Portugal it will be 2 euros. This increase is automatic and has already been implemented in many countries for new customers, but for existing subscribers, it will take effect on July 13th.

In Spain, the price of HBO Max will therefore increase from 8.99 euros to 9.99 euros. However, those who pay the annual fee will not experience any increase, as the offer they purchased will remain unchanged. Additionally, those who took advantage of the 50% launch offer will continue to enjoy it, but instead of paying 4.49 euros, they will now pay 4.99 euros.

It is a symbolic price increase that brings HBO Max closer to Netflix‘s pricing and positions it as a major competitor at the top. We will see if it proves worthwhile with the new offerings it will provide.
