It is very popular among video game studios to work with celebrities. This attracts the attention of the public and the media in a very effective way. It happened before Fortnite did it and will continue to happen after Fortnite ceases to exist. But sometimes a celebrity proves to be a less than great person. And the integrity of a studio is demonstrated by how they react to it. And in the case of IO Interactive, they have reacted in the best possible way.
IO Interactive, the studio behind the Hitman franchise, has decided to cancel its collaboration with Conor McGregor, MMA fighter, in Hitman World of Assassination. The reason is that the fighter was found guilty by an Irish court on charges of sexual assault and rape of a woman in a hotel eight years ago.
McGregor appeared in the game as the character The Disruptor, one of the known elusive targets that was particularly difficult to assassinate. His mission was included at the beginning of November and was scheduled to be playable until December 8th. Something that has been confirmed will no longer be possible in an official statement.
IO Interactive, unlike McGregor, has a bright future ahead
At IO Interactive, in addition to maintaining Hitman World of Assassination, they are working on two other projects: Project 007 and Project Fantasy. The first is a James Bond game and the second is their first fantasy game. Given their reaction to what happened with McGregor, we now await them with even more interest.
