Despite being something so national, it undoubtedly features a human story that will resonate beyond borders.
A historical drama to reflect on
The plot of Say Nothing begins in 1972, with the disappearance of Jean McConville, a widow and mother of ten who was abducted from her home in Belfast. This tragic event serves as the axis of a narrative that blends historical drama and political thriller, exploring the scars left by this violent chapter in modern Irish history.
The true protagonist of the series is Dolours Price, a key figure in the IRA whose transformation from idealist to active member of the armed group reveals the contradictions and sacrifices of those who fought for a united Ireland. Masterfully portrayed by Lola Petticrew in her youth and Maxine Peake in her maturity, Dolours is the soul of the series. Her testimony, recorded before her death, sheds light on the darkest secrets of the IRA, breaking the organization’s strict code of silence.
Say Nothing is not just another series, it is a piece of history told with extraordinary sensitivity. Its blend of human drama, historical context, and memorable performances makes it an essential experience for lovers of productions based on real events.
