It’s not long now! Hogwarts Legacy, the videogame developed by Avalanche Studios and based on the Harry Potter universe, is out this week for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One and PC. While those who have pre-ordered the Standard edition will be able to play it on Friday, February 10, those who have purchased a Deluxe edition will be able to enjoy it three days earlier, on Tuesday, February 7.

Hogwarts Legacy RESERVE

The spectacular launch trailer showed us a few days ago details not seen so far, such as that our protagonist will be able to see “whispers of ancient magic” or that one of our teachers is surnamed Weasley (yes, like “that” Weasley). However, nothing has been shown about a mysterious Hogwarts location that fans are looking forward to. For this very reason, one can only wonder: will we be able to visit the Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts Legacy?

The Chamber of Secrets is one of the most mysterious places at Hogwarts (as its name implies). Located beneath the school’s dungeons, it was created by Salazar Slytherin himself for a single purpose: to house the basilisk, a legendary magical creature that, legend has it, would purge Hogwarts of the children of Muggles once released.

Harry Potter fans who enjoyed the second book or the second movie of the saga will be wondering if the Chamber of Secrets will be another of the locations we can visit during our stay at Hogwarts (even more so if they decide to become dark wizards). The answer is simple and straightforward: no, we won’t be able to.

Although the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets will be visible when we explore the locations of Hogwarts Legacy, its developers explained in an interview that they wanted to make the game as faithful as possible to the main canon of the saga, so access to this chamber by our protagonist (or any other character) would not be possible.

This is because, as the Harry Potter books tell us, “the first person to open the Chamber in centuries” was Tom Riddle, who in later years would go by the pseudonym Lord Voldemort. Riddle opened the Chamber of Secrets in 1943 and freed the basilisk, which he was able to control with the Parseltongue he inherited from Salazar Slytherin. After this event, the creature injured many students and even killed one of them: Myrtle Warren.

Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 1890s, 50 years before the Chamber of Secrets was opened, so, in order to respect canon, it will be inaccessible to players, who will only see the entrance to the chamber, located in the sinks of the women’s bathroom on the second floor of the castle.

Will we get to see it referenced in the video game?
