If you use Google Gemini regularly on your smartphone, you no longer need to go through multiple taps to access it. Google has introduced new home screen widgets for both Android and iOS that make accessing Gemini faster and easier. These widgets allow you to launch Gemini actions—like voice chats, visual searches, and file sharing—with a single tap. The feature is part of Google’s broader strategy to bring AI into the core of daily mobile use.
A smarter shortcut to everyday AI tasks
With Gemini widgets now available on Android 10 and iOS 17 or higher, adding them to your home screen is simple. On Android, long-press the home screen, tap “Widgets,” and drag the Gemini widget to where you want. On iOS, hold down your home screen, tap the plus sign, search for Gemini, and add your preferred layout. You can customize the widget to prioritize specific actions, like opening the microphone or launching the camera directly into Gemini.
These widgets are more than just shortcuts. They’re part of Google’s effort to make Gemini feel like a native tool, not an add-on. The ability to casually use AI for quick tasks—like generating ideas, planning trips, or answering questions—means Gemini is stepping into the role once filled by voice assistants like Siri or Google Assistant.
Though the current widgets are basic, they lay the groundwork for more advanced features, such as surfacing ongoing chats or personalized updates. With a presence on the home screen, Gemini is no longer hidden away—it becomes part of your daily phone experience, one tap at a time.
