Ford Motor Company recorded a remarkable achievement this April, selling 208,675 vehicles in the United States, marking a 16% increase from the same month last year and establishing a new record for April.
This surge in sales is largely attributed to the “From America, For America” campaign, which offers employee pricing on a majority of its 2024 and 2025 models.
Originally set to conclude on June 2, the program has now been extended through July 4, as announced by CEO Jim Farley during a recent CNN interview.
Electric Vehicle Sales Plummet Nearly 40% Amid Ford’s Success
Despite the overall uptick in sales driven primarily by internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, especially trucks and SUVs, Ford faced a significant decline in electric vehicle (EV) sales.
The company sold only 4,859 fully electric vehicles in April, a drop of nearly 40% compared to the same month in the previous year. The decrease is indicative of broader industry trends, as all three of Ford’s electric offerings—the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit—suffered double-digit sales declines, attributed largely to inventory shortages stemming from model year transitions.
Trucks accounted for over half of Ford’s sales last month, with 116,955 units sold, reflecting a 19% increase. SUV sales also rose by 13.4%, with nearly 87,000 units sold. This performance underscores the ongoing consumer preference for gas-powered vehicles amid a volatile market.
Looking forward, Ford is about to conclude the development of its electrical architecture known as FNV4. However, the auto manufacturer clarified that this decision does not spell the end for the project; rather, it involves merging two existing architectures into a singular system applicable across multiple models, including traditional gas-powered cars.
Furthermore, Ford has decided to extend its “Power Promise” program, which offers benefits like free home chargers for electric vehicle buyers, strengthening its commitment to facilitating the transition to electric mobility amidst a challenging market landscape.
