Whether you love or hate Facebook there is a very a good chance that you use it and that you use it every day. It forces its way into our lives and there is little that we can do about it. When Facebook rolls out some new setting or feature we have to deal with it. We can either put up with it or change the settings.

The new Facebook app feature of playing sound from videos automatically is one that falls into the latter. This setting is enabled by default, which means that every video you’ll scroll past will start blasting sound out, even if you don’t interact with the video at all. You need to get them settings changed ASAP. This is how to do it:

How to stop Facebook Videos Playing Sound Automatically

  1. Hit the Menu icon in the top right of the app
  2. Click App Settings
  3. Disable “Videos in News Feed Start With Sound”
  4. Repeat after every time you choose to watch a video with sound

Steps 1-3 are easy enough to follow but step 4 defies belief. Following steps 1-3 will allow you to scroll through your news feed without being deafened by a cacophony of unconnected streams of audio. The problem, however, is that should you wish to watch any video from your stream with audio, the app will automatically enable the “Videos in News Feed Start With Sound” feature, meaning you’ll have to disable it all over again.

What are you playing at Facebook? Talk about user hostility. This will hit user experience hard and will probably be pulled before too long. If not, however, just keep following the above steps to enjoy your procrastination in peace.
