Hyundai’s Ioniq 9: Pre-Orders Open with Starting Price Around $60,000

Hyundai is set to make waves in the electric SUV market with the upcoming IONIQ 9, its first fully electric three-row vehicle.

Positioned as a “game-changing” model, the IONIQ 9 combines features from the hugely successful IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, while enhancing space and performance to cater to families and adventure-seekers alike.

Set to launch in the U.S. and Europe this Spring, the SUV is expected to redefine expectations in its segment.

A “game-changing” model

Equipped with a robust 110.3 kWh NCM battery, the EPA-estimated driving range of the IONIQ 9 reaches an impressive 335 miles, and on the WLTP scale, up to 385 miles.

This efficiency is particularly noteworthy given that the SUV can still travel nearly 250 miles in frigid temperatures as low as -7°C (19.4°F), thanks to an advanced HVAC system that features a heat pump and an independent rear-row HVAC setup designed to conserve energy.

The design of the IONIQ 9 emphasizes efficiency, featuring a drag coefficient of just 0.259 Cd and low energy consumption of 194 Wh/km. A spacious, lounge-like interior showcases dual 12-inch driver and infotainment screens in a curved panoramic display, while the option for swiveling rear seats adds to its versatility.

With the third-row seats folded, the IONIQ 9 offers an impressive cargo capacity of up to 1,322 liters, surpassing the Kia EV9.

Hyundai’s plans also include pre-orders, which opened last month in Korea, with a pricing estimate starting at around $60,000. As part of a broader commitment to electric vehicles, the IONIQ 9 will be produced at Hyundai’s new EV plant in Georgia and feature an NACS port for compatibility with Tesla Superchargers.

As anticipation builds for this launch, auto enthusiasts eagerly await more specifics on this promising addition to the electric SUV market.
