If you have one of these 10 apps on your Android, your phone is at risk

Cybersecurity experts have uncovered a massive ad fraud campaign targeting Android users through hundreds of malicious apps. While many have been removed from the Google Play Store, some dangerous apps are still available for download, putting millions of devices at risk.

These malicious apps threaten your security

A recent investigation by Bitdefender has revealed that at least 331 apps were used to distribute malware. These apps, often disguised as harmless tools like QR code scanners, wallpaper apps, or simple games, can infiltrate your device and compromise your privacy.

Among the most dangerous apps that are still available at the time of reporting are:

  • ShapeUp (100k downloads)
  • Beautiful Day (5k downloads)
  • Destiny Book (10k downloads)
  • Dropo (10k downloads)
  • Handset Locator (50k downloads)
  • Body Scale (500k downloads)
  • Cache Sweep TEL: Clean (100k downloads)
  • Five in a Row (100k downloads)
  • Massm BMI (500k downloads)
  • Water Note (50k downloads)

These apps display full-screen ads, launch phishing attacks, and even steal personal data without requiring special permissions. Some of them hide their icons to remain undetected on your device.

How to stay safe from malicious apps

Even if an app looks legitimate, it’s crucial to take precautionary measures before downloading it. Here’s what you should do:

  • Check app reviews and ratings, but be aware that some might be fake.
  • Enable Google Play Protect, which can detect and warn you about harmful apps.
  • Avoid downloading unnecessary apps to reduce exposure to potential threats.
  • Keep your phone updated to benefit from the latest security patches.

If you have any of the listed apps installed, delete them immediately to protect your device from security risks.
