Apple is set to introduce one of the most radical changes to its iPhone lineup in years with the launch of the iPhone 17 Air. This new model prioritizes design and aesthetics over cutting-edge technology, featuring an ultra-thin profile and a single rear camera. Here’s what we know so far about Apple’s upcoming device.
A thinner, more elegant iPhone
Apple is reportedly making the iPhone 17 Air its thinnest iPhone ever, measuring just 5.5mm at its slimmest point. However, the device will have a new camera bar design, making its thickest point 9.5mm. This new layout marks a significant departure from the traditional camera bump, offering a sleeker and more uniform look.
A focus on design over specs
Unlike recent iPhones with multiple rear cameras, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a single 48MP rear camera, suggesting Apple is relying on software improvements rather than hardware for photography. The front-facing camera will be a 24MP sensor, positioned on the left side of the Dynamic Island instead of the right.
Performance and connectivity
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be powered by Apple’s A19 chip with 8GB of RAM, ensuring smooth performance. However, it will be eSIM-only worldwide, dropping the physical SIM card slot due to its ultra-thin design. Additionally, it will include Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips, instead of Broadcom components.
A competitive price point
Despite its premium design, the iPhone 17 Air is rumored to launch at under $1,000, likely around $899. This price point positions it competitively within the market while maintaining Apple’s signature style.
