Sonic has become a quite curious cinematic phenomenon. Although, at first – and especially because of its previous design – no one gave a penny for its original movie, it has become a highly successful franchise that is about to shoot its third feature film… and has just released a new spin-off!
Knuckles, the villain of the second part of Sonic and faithful companion of the protagonist —who functions as a kind of Vegeta to Goku— has just premiered his new series on SkyShowtime. The platform adds a new and quite interesting product for all audiences… but has it lived up to expectations? This is what the critics say.
Is it up to the level of Sonic movies?
So far, the Knuckles series has premiered on Rotten Tomatoes with a 70% positive reviews, a significant number considering that it is a series primarily aimed at children. In addition, the reviews make it clear that it is a completely independent product, so it serves as a perfect complement to the movies but it is not essential to watch the future third part.
However, some critics make it quite clear that the series is not as good as the previous movies. Apparently, the script is not as good as before and the charisma of the red echidna is not the same as that of the blue hedgehog. But, despite not all the reviews being on its side, it certainly seems like a very enjoyable series for Sonic fans.
Now it’s time for the audience to deliver the verdict. Will Knuckles be as popular with children as Sonic was? Or will it remain as the first disappointment in this SEGA video game universe? Either way, it seems that the work they have been doing lately in adapting video games is finally paying off.
