The horror film industry is currently thriving. While other genres like superheroes may be on the decline, horror continues to rise, generating major releases such as the recent “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” However, amidst all these new releases, there’s a movie that went somewhat unnoticed at first but quickly became an incredible hit: “It Follows.”

Directed by the highly talented David Robert Mitchell, who would later direct “Under the Silver Lake,” “It Follows” became a low-budget movie that achieved significant box office success and critical acclaim. Unexpectedly, a sequel has now been announced, which Mitchell himself has named “They Follow.”

A terrifying metaphor about sexually transmitted diseases

In the first movie, the director portrayed a kind of curse where, after having sex with someone, it passed on to you and caused strange spirits eager to kill you to pursue you… but only you could see them. Like a metaphor for sexually transmitted diseases, it became a film as terrifying as it was interesting and entertaining.

We don’t know what path They Follow will take, but the sequel is in the hands of David Robert Mitchell himself. We also know that the protagonist will once again be Maika Monroe in the role of Jay Height, a young woman who is infected by this curse in the first movie and seems to be in for a rough time again in the second film.

They Follow is scheduled to be filmed in 2024, but little else is known about its plot or cast. In the meantime, you can watch It Follows on Amazon Prime Video, Filmin, and Movistar Plus, platforms where it can be seen with the appropriate subscription.
