The numbers obtained at the Mediaset network are not good, but they have a nuance.

This past weekend kicked off both the Kings League and the Queens League, the 7-a-side soccer leagues presided over by Gerard Piqué. After a first edition, which managed to fill the Camp Nou in its grand finale, the championship returns with the second split of this 2023, which has come with a great novelty: that some matches are broadcast on free-to-air television. But how has this broadcasting worked on Cuatro?

After a first day, the data speak for themselves: the Kings League has not finished working on the Mediaset channel. To be exact, it was the fifth most watched broadcast in its time slot when compared to the main broadcasters:

  • La 1: Mutua Madrid Open Final, Alcaraz-Struff: 22 % and 2,260,000 (from 18:41 to 21:07).
  • Telecinco: Fiesta, 10.7% and 1,035,000 (from 16:00 to 21:00).
  • Antena 3: Cine Rescate millonario, 8.2% and 852,000 (from 19:16 to 20:59).
  • LaSexta: LaSexta Noticias, 4.8% and 507,000 (from 20:01 to 20:47).
  • Cuatro. Kings League, Porcinos – Xbuyer, 3.5% and 382,000 (from 20:04 to 20:55).

As for the Queens League on Saturday, more of the same:

  • La 1: Cine de barrio, Los tramposos: 8.6% and 712,000 (from 19:36 to 20:59).
  • Telecinco: Fiesta, 12% and 1,073,000 (from 16:00 to 21:00).
  • Antena 3: Amanda Knox: Presumed Guilty, 10.3% and 854,000 (from 19:28 to 20:59).
  • LaSexta: LaSexta Noticias, 5.5% and 454,000 (from 20:00 to 20:43).
  • Cuatro. Queens League, Pio FC – Aniquiladoras, 3.5 % and 295,000 (from 20:01 to 20:50).

The “but”

As can be seen, the numbers do not place Cuatro even in the TOP 3 most watched broadcasts, but we must be fair: it was not even in the TOP 3 before the premiere of Piqué’s league.

If we take as a reference the share and viewers of previous weekends, Cuatro was once again the fifth most watched channel in Spain, that is to say, it is in the same position. It did, however, achieve better numbers with the programs it broadcast on Saturday and Sunday, such as Cuatro al día, which never dropped below 4%.

We will have to see how the championship develops during the following weeks and if the format hooks. On Twitch, by the way, it was an absolute success. Again.
