Little Nightmare 3 has made the worst possible decision with its co-op
If you wanted to play with your brother or partner on the couch at home, forget about it

We fondly remember the opening night of Gamescom 2023 when Bandai Namco surprised us with the trailer for Little Nightmares 3. The surprise is that, for the first time, the game is developed by Supermassive Games (we’re not quite sure why).
Well, the developer Supermassive Games has confirmed that Little Nightmares 3 will not include a local co-op mode for players to experience the true horror of the game.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, the team announced that although the development team toyed with the idea of introducing a cooperative mode in the next installment of the series, they ultimately decided not to go ahead with the fans’ request because it would take away ‘atmosphere and immersion’ from the game.
A justification that’s very hard to buy: An excuse?
“The cooperative mode was the most requested feature by our fans, so it was really important for us to offer it,’ said Coralie Feniello, a producer at Bandai Namco. ‘I think it will add a new dimension to the game as it allows you to enjoy it with a friend.”
“But at the same time, we want the player to experience it as they wish. That’s why we’ve kept the single-player mode, so if you don’t play online co-op, you can play with AI,’ she concluded.”
“We’ve considered the option of couch co-op, but, returning to the atmosphere and immersion we’re aiming for with Little Nightmares, I believe it was important for us to stick to online cooperative play rather than more traditional gaming aspects.”
“So, for fans who were hoping to play with a friend by their side while exploring the horrors of Little Nightmares 3, unfortunately, they’ll have to go it alone… taking away much of the fun from a game that would have greatly benefited from a couch companion.”
Release date and compatible consoles
Little Nightmares 3 was announced during Gamescom 2023 with a haunting first trailer. This time, the game is being developed by the team behind The Dark Pictures Anthology instead of the original creator, Tarsier.
The game is scheduled for release in 2024 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam).
