Killers of the Flower Moon, called Los asesinatos de la luna in Spain, will be released worldwide on October 6. Martin Scorsese’s umpteenth film promises to be a new hit for the director, reaching the Oscars with ease. And for this he counts on two of his usual allies: Robert DeNiro and, of course, Leonardo DiCaprio.

DiCaprio has already appeared in several of the director’s best contemporary films, from The Wolf of Wall Street to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. But Killers of the Flower Moon won’t be their last collaboration; the director has just announced a new film that, once again, will star the Titanic actor: The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder.

What will Martin Scorsese’s next film be about?

We recently found out that Scorsese is going to direct a movie about Jesus Christ, something that attracted a lot of attention for being the second time he did this after The Last Temptation of Christ. Also, considering the hits he has carried out in relating religion to his cinema, Silence (2016) being the pinnacle of this type of film, the hype was through the roof.

But first, it seems, he will make another stop along the way to adapt The Wager, a book written by David Grann that is already a number one New York Times bestseller. This has been told by Grann himself in a French media for which he has granted an interview:

“It turns out that the Jesus film Scorsese had hinted at during his visit to the Vatican is more of an experimental foray for the legendary filmmaker, a ‘meditation’ on his beliefs. The Wager appears to be his next choice.”

The Wager will be, once again, produced by Apple, the director’s new home after he made The Irishman with Netflix. But what exactly will this film be about? For now we can leave you with the synopsis of the book, which we take the opportunity to recommend considering that Scorsese has found it attractive enough to be one of the frames of his latest films:

“Set in the 1740s, Wager’s story begins when a patched-up ship with 30 emaciated men lands on the coast of Brazil. The men were the surviving crew of a British ship that was chasing a Spanish ship and crashed on an island in the Patagonia region of South America. Their stories of survival in the seas and the elements made them heroes, yet six months later another ship, even more battered than the first, ended up on the Chilean shield, this one with three men. And these new sailors accused the first of being in reality a group of mutineers.

Despite being a whopping 80 years old, Scorsese has three other films in his sights: a Teddy Roosevelt biopic starring DiCaprio that we haven’t heard about in a while, a Jerry Garcia biopic starring Jonah Hill and this project about Jesus Christ for which more details have yet to be revealed.

Recently, the director confirmed that now, finally, he knew how to make films and he was more eager than ever to make them… but that his age does not allow him to be at the level he was at the beginning. For the moment, he doesn’t seem to have slowed down, but as long as his body can take it, we’ll be happy to continue receiving gems from his filmography.
