HBO Max has changed its name to Max, and with this simple name change, all kinds of things are happening on the platform. Strange cancellations, announcements that are never clarified, and even the sale of its series to Netflix have become common in a VOD service that is going downhill without brakes, and now a new piece of news has just arrived that has come as a cold shower to its subscribers.
30 Coins, the horror series by Álex de la Iglesia, will not have a third season. The series is canceled in media res, since the director had planned three seasons and, having only reached the second, they do not allow him to finish a fiction that was ready to be completed as soon as possible… including scripts.
A third season of 30 Coins on Prime Video?
Although the first season of 30 Coins was a resounding success, its subsequent episodes did not have the same luck. Season 2, despite featuring an international star like Paul Giamatti in the cast, did not please the viewers as much, and apparently its ratings dropped so much that Max has ended up canceling the project. However, Álex de la Iglesia has not given up, as he makes clear in the following tweet:
As he makes clear, “30 Coins is part of my life” and he is going to “do the impossible to finish it”. In this way, it is not ruled out that the director is already negotiating with other platforms to try to carry out his long-awaited ending. After all, it is a trilogy, and so far he has been able to tell 2/3 parts of his story. For the little that remains, maybe he will achieve it.
One of its main objectives for this third season could be to ally with Prime Video. While Max’s fame is falling, Prime’s is rising thanks to its original fictions and its strong commitment to its series. In addition, De la Iglesia has already released several titles on this platform, so it could be the lifeline that many are waiting for.
