Build new worlds in the Minecraft Legends RTS game planned for 2023

A little over a week ago, we reported on rumors that Mojang was gearing up to announce a new real-time strategy game. Now, we have confirmation that Minecraft Legends will be joining the ever-expanding realms of Minecraft gameplay in 2023. Mojang has also released the name of the exciting new title; Minecraft Legends.

The Player, as the main protagonist is referred to in the Minecraft End Poem, is back. This time, however, the player doesn’t seem to be carrying a name or an identity such as Steve or Alex, instead, the player is simply a legend. In a tantalizing and goosebump-worthy description of the new game’s storyline, Minecraft.net paints the picture of a series of events that may or may not turn out to be canon in the greater Minecraft lore. 

‘Stories are powerful. Legends teach us about what has passed and what might have been. They create a bridge between us and generations long past as well as the ones to come.  

Starting today, we want to tell you another story – about peaceful coexistence, where adventurers did not get chills when hearing hissing, groans, or the clatter of bones. And the moment when a terrifying force threatened to corrupt this idyllic world forever. This is a story about the Overworld of Minecraft Legends.’

Jeff Gerstmann, the founder of Giant Bomb, made a number of statements concerning the new game a few days ago, and from what we’ve seen in the trailer, a good deal of what he said has come to fruition. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that the rest of the comments he made during his live stream will come to pass as well. We, therefore, expect Minecraft Legends to have a deep storyline with cinematic cut-scenes and a well-fleshed-out story mode. 

It’s incredibly exciting to any type of Minecraft player to be getting a new title to mess with. Minecraft Dungeons gave us new lore and histories to add to our ever-expanding collection of canon Minecraft knowledge, adding to official resources such as the Mobestiary. We have no doubt that Minecraft Legends will flesh out the Minecraft story even further.
