Nintendo has confirmed the launch of the Switch 2 for 2025, with a design reminiscent of the original model, but with improved features. The new console will feature a larger screen, magnetic Joy-Cons, more ports, and an updated dock. This adjustment in Nintendo’s formula comes after the resounding success of the classic Switch, which debuted with iconic titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8: Deluxe.
Little Nintendo, which will be presented in April, but great third-party support
Among the games already confirmed for launch are a new Mario Kart, titled Mario Kart 9, which is expected to be a major system seller, and Yooka-Replayee. Additionally, the release of Synth Beasts is anticipated, a Diablo-style game focused on capturing and upgrading monsters, which could fill the gap left by recent Pokémon titles that have received mixed reviews for their technical performance.
On the other hand, Warner Bros. is working on the adaptation of Gotham Knights for the Switch 2, and there are rumors that Elden Ring, along with other Xbox and Sony franchises, could come to the new console. Although it is still early to expect titles like Halo, Microsoft has indicated its support for the Switch 2, suggesting the possibility of exploring remakes of classics like Oblivion.
Regarding Mario games, both a new installment and a 3D Mario are anticipated to be in development, taking advantage of the recent popularity of the Super Mario Bros movie. However, it is uncertain if a new Zelda title will be released alongside the console, given that backward compatibility has been confirmed and players will be able to enjoy Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom on the new hardware.
